we had p.e. teacher who if lads were having a scrap' would take them to the gymn and put some massive boxing gloves on them,then with all the other kids viewing from the 'wall bars' told them to go for it,it never lasted long both combatants were soon totally knaackered,no body was hurt and it was good entertainment for most of us. he never did it with the more sensative lads,................and always at the end would get the lads involved to shake hands,......happy days.

i remember my dad who loved boxing talking about freddie mills,i obviously also recall the nottingham boxer wally swift,used to serve his family at believe it or not 'marsdens' on lower parliament st early 60s lol. and tompa' you lived in sweden do you recall them talking about 'ingemar johansson' who faught floyd patterson for the world title in the late 50s ?

marvelous marvin,.........yes,i have so many favourites,he was amonst them,......tommy hitman hearns,floyd patterson,rocky marciano (a fighter),i could go on,just love the game,and nottingham has a proud history in boxing.

john h stracey lovely boxer ian,..........if you are into boxing you know the difference between a fighter and boxer,..and john was of the latter a lovely boxer.

looking forward to it,and like you say ian 'a good match'............klitschko getting on a bit,but tyson has a bit of a 'glass chin'......should be interesting,like to see fury win,.....under all his bluster he is a nice bloke.........and i like nice people.

don't know and don't care what the adverts for,.......but theres some t...t whistling all thru it,and goes on and on........i hate blokes whistling anyway,...especialy them that just make a stupid noise thru their teeth........and somehow they are always behind me when i'm waiting to pay at a till.....why do they do it?

lost boy among sharks hippo girl like it,when i met him he was playing for fulham and he was in a players lounge,the only one not drinking,he was looking for a quiet place away from the bar and you could tell he did'nt want to be there among all the back slappers,but he had to wait for the others,he found me in a quiet corner and asked if i minded him joining me,i was over the moon but tried not to show it,we had aconversation for about 5 mins,then he shook my hand and was gone..........bless him.

it sold groceries as well nonna,but as years went by the licensed part slowly took over,they even had beer on draught and sherry from the wood,the farrands in bulwell went the same way.
