  1. Told John how good ''Grab a Granny Nights'' were in Norfolk....so he was there yesterday...''East Dereham'' wonder if he danced with 'Sally'' ?..........oh no she was in Samsons'' Wednesday nights in Norwich...........bet he goes there too.....lol
  2. Cant recall any 'International stores'' in Nottingham.....where were they BK ? We at Marsdens'' always thought ''SPD'' stood for ''Soap Powder Delivery's''....took all these years to find out not.............
  3. This is the company that bought out Farrands- Marsdens about 1970...........they were based in the North-east...........
  4. Another VG store...........shown by Cliff ton previously...Taggs..Woodborough road.........

Have added VG stores to the Marsdens etc thread..........worked all over the country dealing with VG stores........there were quite a few in Nottinghamshire.........they were all privately owned and at one time there were over 3;000 nationwide.......anyone recall any where they lived ?........... ABGibsons of Daybrook supplied the Notts..South Yorkshire..Lincs..East Anglia.and West Midlands ones...with depots also operating out of Peterborough and Moxley......

I know Seagulls are not to everyones taste but i love feeding them for breakfast each morning......i throw my crusts on the shed down the garden.......and love to see them 'Swoop' and collect them in their beaks after circling and shouting first..... However this last week they had completely disappeared.....until yesterday when the really 'Big one' returned....he's three times as big as all the others and he actually lands on my shed......think he's the leader he's dead 'Leary' and really 'Strutts'' his stuff......actually lands whilst i'm still putting the food out.........and looks at

Cruised down the river Leen once with my best mate Harry when we were about Ten........in a painters 'Dinghy' they'd been painting under the bridge at the back of Vernon Park and gone for their dinner i think....... Got as far as ''Billy Bacons'' field and tied (moored) it there.........couldnt take it back Current too strong....... Painters not best pleased...........

Just found this photo (below or above) on the net........it shows a Marsdens on Moor street Mansfield in the 1930's.......even before my time.....it states in the right up the Manager went on to Manage Marsdens in Bulwell.................. Managers name was Wilfred Morley and the piece was written by his Grandson...

Ey up Laura......knew your area quite well from the 60s to the 80s..Courted a girl in the 60s who lived off the far end of Oakdale road Southchurch..........used to catch the 59 or number 3 from the side of the council house in town....to get there.......... Favourite Pub was the ''Elwes Arms'' then further back down Oakdale the ''Tally-ho'' In the 80s had some very good friends who ran the Paper shop'' on Sneinton Dale ..Gary and Sharon...........they left to live in Spain late 80s.....Had a few other old pals and relations who lived down the ''Dale'' including a great cha
  18. He also had a strong attachment to a lovely Tom Cat......which he contemplated 'Smuggling'' home with him..... He was working with several nationalities and finally decided his Italian mate would be the best to look after the 'Cat'' Which he made swear he would....
  19. One from my time in Coalville 1964.....you can just make out the ''Farrands' store.....3rd shop on left........ Used to lodge with ''Big Maud'' on Whitwick road......i was 19 and she always threatened to lock me out if i was not in before eleven........
