  5. No not yet but I noticed on TV this lunch time that the tree was being erected in the O.M.S.
  6. I thought I'd start this thread after going into W H Smith's this morning. They have a lot of books and other items on offer but what I thought was a great bargain this time of the year were their Boxes of Christmas Cards - All at half price including charity ones. They have a wide selection and if you send quite a few it may be worth considering. The offer doesn't apply to single cards. Have you come across any bargains?
  7. According to a map in the EMGS Book "Sandstone Caves Of Nottingham" the entrance in front of the house on Mansfield Road led to "Gallows Hill Mines"
  8. I've just emailed Channel 5 and asked them to explain why the Nottingham episode wasn't on and when it will be shown. I'll let you know the response.
  9. My apologies as Nottingham isn't in this episode despite Channel 5's websiter showing it is and I've just pressed the info button while the programme is on ans it clearly says Nottingham. - Sorry
  10. You can of course see the programme tomorrow night on Channel 5+24 available on Freeview, Freesat, Sky and Virgin
  11. It shows as repeated tomorrow at 12.15pm
  12. Just checked Channel 5's website and it does feature Nottingham caves tonight - see link below http://www.channel5.com/shows/underground-britain/episodes/episode-2-656
  13. I was just looking at the t.v. listings for tonight on Sky. It shows that on Channel 5 tonight at 8pm the series “Underground Britain” explores the man-made caves under Nottingham. I would say in the Radio Times it states it's London tonight but I assume the Sky listings are more up-to-date
  14. I remember going to the old Playhouse with a trip from school to see some play there. It was the Nottingham Playhouse from November 1948 - July 1963.
  15. I read somewhere they were going to extend the Victoria Centre. Found it - here's the link http://www.nottinghampost.com/Victoria-Centre-expansion-York-House-demolition/story-22963003-detail/story.html
  16. If you've not done so already you could try this site http://www.sing365.com/index.html
  17. There's a book called "Sandstone Caves of Nottingham" published by East Midlands Geological Society with history of the caves with maps and photos http://www.emgs.org.uk/files/publications/sandstone.htm
  18. I used to know someone who lived on the 19th floor of the Victoria Centre Flats and there was a good view form there. I would thin that the view from the top of Trent Uni must be good as well.

    Dementia

The day before my mother died (in hospital) she didn't recognise me but she did her half sister. I don't know whether this would have been classed as dementia or not but I'll always remember it.

  23. I don't know if there was a Goose Fair that year as I wasn't even born but the first Saturday in October 1945 was the 6th.
  24. As you say she can afford double glazing could you maybe persuade her by pointing out the money she'll save by cutting down heating costs and maybe the noise (if she's in a noisy area).
  25. Here's a link about the history of Goose Fair. The site has links to other sites related to the fair. http://www.nottsheritagegateway.org.uk/places/goosefair.htm
