  2. If you hate him and his philosophies that much Melissa, why don't you burn the books to stop them from 'poisoning' other people's minds. I think you had made your mind up before you began to read the books. Sorry we don't see eye-to-eye on this, so no point in continuing the discussion .
  3. Yes, the tall building, I think it is/was called Ascot Works.
  4. The building at the bottom of Aspley Lane (still there) used to be a Players storage factory until it was taken over briefly by Rolls-Royce as its tank engine factory, making the Meteor engine, based on the Merlin engine. However, it was soon taken over by Rover, who were the main manufacturers there until they moved back to the Birmingham area.
  5. Really, Melissa! You have just taken a degree in philosophy - the search for knowledge and understanding of things and causes - and you say that you hate one of the great thinkers of today.
  6. I thought my poem might produce a reaction from those with opposing views, but I did not write it specifically to rile them. loppylugs: I did not say that religion is responsible for all deaths and suffering. If the victims of the Russian and Chinese Communists were not religious they would not have been murdered. Michael: They are many people who devote their lives to religion, presumably, among other reasons, thinking that there will be a special place in heaven when they die. Such people want their lives to be run in a religious manner; in other words it becomes a hobby. Many such people
  7. Hmmmm, interesting. Carni, did the URL address appear in the Reply box? And did the image appear in the Reply box before you hit Post? I note that your #73 does not have an image.
  8. Happiness, forgiveness and love - I have all of those things without being religious, because I have my own mind-set. I know right from wrong, appreciate others' feelings, and so on, I do not need instructions on how to or be made to behave. Throughout history and 'til the present day, religion has been responsible for more death, suffering and misery than any other reason. Read the books of Richard Dawkins.
  9. I hear what you say Cliff Ton, but I have a new picture to post and it will not go. Neither will my Avatar picture, which, of course did originally post correctly. Any thoughts on why I have IMG ...... and you have IMG ...... ? If anyone else who has trouble with posting images is following this, what do you have on the IMG line - or ?
  10. Logic's Adversary Religion is life's mental crutch the lame-in-mind rely on, For others tell them what to think, of self-belief there is none. They trust the words of ages past, in books they call the scriptures, And spread them round as gospel truth, in sermons and in pictures. Some force themselves and their beliefs on anyone who'll listen, And those that won't are demonised, their outlook shall not glisten. Tolerance of others' views? anathema with knobs on, They are right, all others wrong, and understanding long gone. Look around the world, in almost every reg
  11. Yeah, I know what it's like. I keep getting mistaken for Errol Flynn. (not how he looks today!)
  12. Cliff Ton. A Ha! I get the same page as your top image, BUT, where the IMG has http: etc beside it, I get http/s1276 etc. Why am I showing URL instead of IMG? When I click in the reply box I get nothing except a pop-up that says 'Your post is empty'. I click in the box before I write a message - is this OK, or should I write the message THEN add the image?
  13. Cliff Ton says that when I click on 'Paste' I should see the http identity appear [http://s1276.photobucket.cc]. It doesn't. Is this tell us something? The test-picture I am using is the my Avatar image, which, of course has already transferred correctly. Another jpeg image did not work either.
  14. The dog-waste bins - do the night soil men empty them?
  15. #30. Something similar happened to me when I was young. I asked mam what pocket billiards was. She said 'It's when men fiddle with their goolies'. That shut me up.
  16. Strange why Photobucket works OK to put my avatar picture in the right place, but will not insert a picture in the Reply box. I have had both pages on the screen at the same time - Nottstalgia and Photobucket. This way I did not come out of Photobucket, but the result was the same when I clicked Post - a message appears saying that 'Your post is empty'. By now I would have expected the schaudenfreude (sp)-minded members to have clicked the Like This tab!!
  17. Here we go again. I left-clicked the IMG code and then had to come out of Photobucket to get back into Nottstalgia - which I had left open. After clicking 'paste' I get a message that there is no image. It seems to me that coming out of Photobucket deleted the saved image. It is in this area where I am going wrong - I think. I have also put something in the message window on the Photobucket page and clicked on 'post' below it before coming out.
  18. #1832 I know how the Enigma coding machine works, and am quite au fait with the German Geheimschreiber machine, but have not yet fathomed what IIRC means.
  19. Let's see if this works! Nope. it dint And again Nope. Am I losing the saved image when I come out of Photobucket? Expliquer simplement, s'il vous plait!

    Scales

    #1. This is a steel-yard scale.
  21. I seem to remember that there was another Saturday sports newspaper in the 1950s, 1960s, that had green pages. The seller would shout 'green 'un', 'green 'un'.
  22. Thanks Cliff Ton, obviously I am on the right track but when do I see the image? Do I see it before posting? Incidentally, my image is 33kb not mb.
  23. I cannot find a way to post an image, despite following instructions. I call up Photobucket, click on library, click on view images, click on the image I want to send, then click on IMG (in right-hand column). The http identity next to it turns yellow and says 'copied'. I then go the test page Reply window, click on it, then right click and click on 'paste' Nothing happens. The file size is 33MB. katyjay says that when she opens her library in Photobucket it has the IMG under each picture - mine doesn't. Also, she says that when she clicks the IMG it turns blue (like me at the moment!) Wher
  24. #24. Don't be silly, he invented tobacco.
  25. katyjay. Er, - 78s were singles, but not having LPs we did not called them that! I bought my radiogram in 1961, so didn't buy any 45s until then. The Byrds record was issued in 1965, so could not have been that one. I have had a look at my 45s, but cannot remember which I bought first. Bought the Dean Martin record, and the radiogram, from an electrical shop on Aspley Lane, just up from the Forum cinema - think its name was Dabells, or something like that.
