Hi Cliff Ton,the houses were opposite the catholic church,and were at the side of the nags head pub,chesterfield street runs alongside the pub.i think the catholic club could now be a gym but not sure about this.The old houses stood back from the road with steps and a path leading up to them,I think they could have been called Carlton Villas but not certain about this,ours was number 114 ,there were 4houses.

  4. While keeping to the 30mph,some idiot behind you flashing their lights and sounding the horn,I know my area well and I WILL get a speeding fine if I speed up,so why not overtake and you can have the fine.
  5. Had my vectra 15years,had two new batteries recently,but they keep going flat after a few days,garage disconnected the radio as they thought that was the fault,but no,it's still the same.shame really as the car still looks good.
  6. my son has recently moved into a new house in wilford,ruddington lane,they are built by Taylor wimpy ,I don't know a lot about wilford, Any idea what was there before the new houses were built?

  9. Plastic carrier bags?never saw one when I was a kid.,mam had a big shopping bag.Also mam used to send me to a shop on heathcote street, to buy paper lunch bags to pack my dads snap in,they sold all sizes of paper bags which were sold by the pound (weight)wonder what happened to that shop?

Can anyone remember a row of 4 old houses which stood back from the road,opposite the catholic club?i was born in the house next to the orchard and left when I got married in 72,I have not been able to find a picture of the houses,They were later turned into a nursing home,but later demolished and replaced by flats.

  12. Mick2me, I remember a game where you had to knock buildings down with an airplane and not crash into them,if you managed to flatten all the buildings a little man jumped from the plane and waved....can't remember the name of the game though.

  14. Also on station road was a big old house that stood back ,I think an old lady lived there ,we all called the house steads,they reckon it was haunted,now gone new houses I it's place I think.

Chulla,I am with virgin media and I still get loads of junk mail from them.I recently went to the virgin shop in town to tell them I wanted to go on the cheapest package as my bill had been creeping up over 3 months.I was asked if I would be at home on a certain day,I said yes ,I was charged £20 connection fee,which I assumed someone would be coming to connect a new box,but the item was delivered by courier ,I had to sign to say I had received it,reading the letter that came with it I saw it said self connection! But i am already connected to virgin,so I am paying to connect it myself?anyway I
  16. Potatoes that have been washed and put in plastic bags while still wet,have to take them out and dry them or they rot very quickly.
  17. Oh dear,I think maybe it is a bodge job,and I never knew they could be made of asbestos. I reckon it could be half cast iron and half plastic,but without getting on a ladder for a better look can't be sure. Do you know anyone who does such repairs?
  18. NewBasfordlad, it happens when it rains so it must be a downpipe,it appears where there is a join,it has rotted some of the bricks around it. I think it is plastic,but the top half before the join is a bit bigger round.Us women are not as good as men at this sort of thing,so I don't think I would know how to fix it myself.
  19. Big damp patch in kitchen,it was caused by a leaking drainpipe.Does anyone have an idea what it should cost to be repaired/replaced?dont want to get ripped off.
  20. karlton,I can also remember mossops,shentalls,I think the post office was there too.Coming up carlton hill was Mckinleys,I think they sold sweets and toys,a shop that sold wet fish,I seem to recall on the other side of the road a hairdresser Betty need,a shoe shop,a knitting wool shop.,crossing over the road again was knightons,a sort of hardware/household goods shop.
  21. I also went to st Paul's, Carlton Hill. I remember we had to form lines then march in to our class,had to hang your coat in the cloakroom,and it always felt damp when you put it on again,we had p.e on a lawn near to a cemetery (its still there they have made it into a sort of park)
  22. Seen too many pop singers to mention, Terence Trent darby ...what a voice,wish he would come to notts again.,saw cliff bennett at the sherwood rooms when he was very young,and saw him a few years ago ,he still has it. Saw Carl froch in John lewis.
