  1. Technical Textile School Nottingham - Navy skirts, cardigans, gaberdine mac and blazers, white blouse - navy/red/white striped tie...........a badge with needles on..........red shorts for PE and Hockey......................In summer red and white or navy and white striped dress.........

  6. There was a Soap advert which sounds familiar, it might have been 'Pears' and tanning spray called Liquid Sunshine and a liquer called golden liquid sunshine in a bottle............

  8. I can remember all those things, Ivor Thirst....... If you went to Mrs Lee's tuck shop, ( she sold everything imaginable for under threepence) - opposite Spring Street School in Hucknall, you could get a penny worth of Kali, stuck your finger in it to suck it, ended up with yellow fingers........
  9. Mighty imps which were an old penny a bag - and black Jacks which 4 for an old penny, they made your teeth go black............. And Fennings Fever Mixture.......It was kept at the top of the cupboard, if you complained of feeling ill to get a day of school, the Fennings came out of the cupboard and you were at the School gate before the top was off.............Revolting stuff, cured everything....... Then there was the Malt from the clinic............... Setlitz Powders and Andrew's Liver Salts and Derbac Soap to wash your hair with, it stopped you from catching nits.............God, aren'
  10. Spangles........ I loved them, they were threepence and had lots of different flavours, you could suck them for ages...........
  11. I went regularly in the late 60's early 70's - met lots of groups there who later became famous.....................

My aunty Grace went to live on Arkwright Street in February 1958 - she lived in a flat over the top of Jessie Robinson's fish shop, next door to a butchers which was on the corner of St Saviour's Street........there was a row of houses next door to them which joined onto the church and a fortune teller lived in one of them, I was only twelve/fourteen at the time and used to go and stay with my aunty a lot, I can remember wheeling my cousins in their pushchairs around all the winding streets and terraces........We used to sit at the front window watching the trolley buses go up and down, there

I grew up in the late 40's/50's, they were reasonable happy times for me - I left school in 1961 at 16 - My first job was £3.10s a week in a Factory Office, I then later moved to work in the city for a Solicitor's Office, got loads more money, I remember all the great dance halls, pubs, clubs, cinemas, parties, trips to Skeggy, London, Blackpool, Yarmouth etc........ not forgetting all the cheap trendy clothes from C&A and places, it was definietely the swingin sixties for me............. We had the time of our lives and I would not have missed living in that era for all the world........
