  1. I recall a cafe close to Low Pavement, a tropical fish seller and a shop called 'Christians' who were homeopathic chemists.
  2. Has it been pre dug ready for immediate occupation?
  3. A friend of mine was hauled up before the magistrates and fined half a crown for riding his bicycle without lights back in the fifties. Oh how times have changed!
  4. Human rights isn’t it? People want their ‘rights’ but forget that they have obligations to others.
  5. I’ve just read online that someone in Notts has been fined £600 for fishing without a licence! How serious is that?
  6. I think the spirit of Mussolini still lives on in Italy. The authorities love making rules and the people love finding ways around them. Even the tax inspectors are armed when they visit!
  7. Sorry Barrie. This is an Apple household. More palatable to swallow!
  8. A Samsung tablet? You've not swallowed it have you?
  9. That's good Brenda. I do know Winthorpe but the Newark to Collingham road has bypassed the village many years ago and it has now become a bit of a backwater with only one road in and out.
  10. ‘Appenis, appenis, the only gift I don’t posess. (With thanks to Ken Dodd!)
  11. I’ve traced a Brian Watchorn who was born in Winkburn in 1948 and now farms at Weston on Trent, just up the A1 from Newark.
  12. It's not far from me and my wife has ancestors buried in the churchyard. I often see a van around with the name 'Watchhorn Agricultural Contractors'
  13. Col's right. We do tend to look on other people to be similar to ourselves; relatively normal, rational people. Many are not. There are some complete dimbos our there. They obviously have mental problems and we should have sympathy for them.
  14. The ‘late’ Plantfit rides one of these. Knowing the area where he lives he must have a death wish riding it round those country lanes with the tall hedges. I’ve no idea what the point of them is unless it’s to provide therapy for the disabled - or perhaps for those who are looking to become disabled!
  15. Thanks for backing me up on that Margie!
  16. Fragonard! Seriously it used to be a paint colour.
  17. Just had a bit of luck. I was talking to a lady in the village about my artistic ambitions and she’s agreed to let me paint her in the nude. There is one proviso though - I have to keep my socks on so that I have somewhere to keep my brushes!
  18. Haven’t got the heart to kill wildlife. The nude has an appeal but what approach does one use to ask a potential model?
  19. I suppose those of us who demonstrated a modest talent for art in our schooldays have never pursued it. The last drawings I did were for A level biology where I had to sketch the innards of a frog or a rabbit which I had just dissected. Like running, which I was good at, I’ve never done any since I was eighteen. I don’t feel inclined to take up running now but I suppose I could start painting just to see if I still can. Perhaps when I’ve done a few I could exhibit myself!
  20. Elvis Jesley? Never heard of him.
  21. That's because Worksop is much further north and Christmas comes much earlier up there.
  22. I'm a qualified fork lift truck operator!
