  1. Hardy thought it was the duff manager. It must now be dawning that the players are also useless. It must be a dreadful financial millstone for him but who would take it on?
  2. It wasn’t that long ago that Alan Hardy was complaining about having to sell the club because of the cost of the ‘win bonuses’. He must be a happy man now. He can use the money to pay his chauffeur until he gets his licence back.!
  3. Bodega is still open - but not as you knew it! Certainly not my scene but you may be more of a swinger than me!
  4. La Buca on Thurland St. was the first place where we came across Alex and yourself. It was a regular Saturday night eaterie for us. Back in those days you could usually park outside. We followed you from place to place until you left for Italy. I used to go to Milan and Florence on business a lot back then so I dined well but your food was as good as the best over there.
  5. Son’s drone is now at the top of one of our 60’ poplar trees. He has tried shooting it down with the .22 rifle and it is coming down bit by bit. Maybe we can glue it back together!
  6. Italian food is always the best. Why don’t you come back and open a restaurant? You could call it ‘The Hole’ !
  7. Trying to help by setting the table for dinner. I’ve put the wrong bloody glasses on the table - should be the Waterford crystal, not those that came with 10 gallons of petrol. Haven’t put the place setting name tags out - for heaven’s sake it’s the family, we know who we are! I’ll let her get on with it!
  8. Obvious. They walked into town and got a taxi from the Market Square.
  9. Had the pork pie, drank the champagne, playing with drone. Now waiting to be arrested.
  10. 'Grumpy Old Gits Guide to Life' Just what I always wanted!
  11. Probably ruined the driver’s Christmas as well!
  12. Having just checked, they all seem to have closed now. A sad day.
  13. I can see Catfan’s face lighting up as he visualises the occurrence!
  14. I used to look forward to a Little Chef breakfast after an early start on a business trip. Must have visited most of them over 25 years. If I was really hungry it was the Olympic Breakfast with a side order of beans. There are still a few around. The nearest to me is on the Hykeham roundabout on the A46 near Lincoln. Just checked - it's gone, soon to be a Greggs and a Burger King. Is nothing sacred?
  15. An old friend of mine, a well heeled sort of guy, would only eat beans on toast for his main meal every weekday. His wife absolutely despaired. At the weekend, for a special treat, he would take her out for a meal at a Little Chef!
  16. Now the police are saying there were drones, spotted by the public, and there has been ‘miscommunication’. The police aren’t coming out too well in this - plus they arrested the wrong people without serious evidence. Now the Cabinet are having a conference call. It looks like there’s been some incompetence here.
  17. I remember that restaurant. I was only a part time student at one time but I managed to get a card to enable me to eat there. Very cheap and they did a good curry. Cracking views as well. I remember dissecting rabbits, dogfish, frogs and earthworms for A level biology at school. They were preserved in a tank of formalin for ongoing dissection. Not the right subject for an accountancy qualification but then I never experienced a quadratic equation or differential calculus after leaving school.
  18. We were allowed to take sandwiches in the 6th. form. The school canteen at Mellish was run by an angry looking woman called Mrs. Frost. Her cooking skills were negligible. Universally disliked. I remember the day she retired and there was a presentation to her in assembly. I was up front in the choir and she stood next to me whilst the headmaster read out a eulogy. It caused her to burst into tears and I had to put my arms around her and let her cry on my shoulder. Never lived that one down!
  19. Smoked haddock. Beautiful. Used to get it from the 'proper' fish market in the old Central Market. Also the large Portmadoc mussels. The mussels in the supermarkets seem to come ready shelled these days and taste awful.
  20. Thank’s Margie. I’m in festive mood and not a single tree or decoration in the house. There’s lots of Hoovering going on so I think something is about to happen but I’m keeping out of it!
  21. Memories evoked there of standing outside Pork Farms in the traditional pork pie queue on Christmas Eve morning.
  22. I read in the paper and hear on the radio this morning that the ‘drones’ may not have been there at all and could have been imaginary. From a legal point of view that’s going to have an effect on possible compensation claims. Hitherto they claimed that the drones were circumstances beyond their control and no compensation would be paid for the inconvenience. I think the police have got to come up with pretty solid evidence to keep the compensation lawyers at bay on this one now.
  23. Seen outside a butcher’s shop. ‘Watership Down - you’ve read the book, you’ve seen the film - now eat the cast!’
  24. I don’t read his posts because he’s on ignore along with the word gamers but he still clogs up the site with his persistent posting.
