  1. I knew Chris Gibson quite well. Gibson Waste dealt with our skips and Chris was a hands on sort of bloke. He was driving a Daimler at the time and he was invited to Mann Egerton, the Jag dealership, for an open evening. Chris looked a bit scruffy. He was looking at a car when a salesman came over and said ‘do you think you can afford this sir?’. Chris said ‘I can afford to buy every bloody car in the showroom and take you on as my chauffeur!’ He could as well! I believe he retired to live in Jersey where you had to prove you were of substantial worth to be able to buy a property.
  2. It was the little touches I liked. The crisp white napkins, the flowers for the table, the petits fours. It’s just a pity that Derbyshire is too hilly for the trike.
  3. No Rog, I drink it, not you!
  4. What about the E Type coupe at £200,000? He’s had it for quite a while so might be prepared to take an offer!
  5. There’s a 1961 P4 at Spinning Wheel Motors at Chesterfield. Adrian there is a nice guy to deal with. Again it might be worth a look out of interest.
  6. That’s why I sold the Lotus. Very embarrassing to have to crawl out on my hands and knees. Hardly the image for a sports car driver!
  7. Roast beef and Yorkshire’s tonight please Rog - and perhaps just a little light desert - oh and a prawn cocktail for starters. A bottle of Beaujolais to wash it down perhaps. No rush.
  8. There were a very nice set of hugh wall to ceiling mirrors in the Welbeck dining room . George Akins bought them at the Welbeck disposal sale and they adorned the rear wall of the Victoria Club dining room. I don’t know if they or the Victoria Club are still there.
  9. I knew Jack Hopewell’s quite well. They looked after our company’s Jags and could obtain them new when they were difficult to source. They drove one off the ramp with the door open and ripped it right off! They serviced a car for me and I found various tools left under the bonnet which I returned, much to their embarrassment.
  10. There’s a very nice Rover 60, 1958, for sale at Sherwood Restorations in Southwell near to me. £13,995. They can be a bit expensive there but might be worth a look just out of curiosity. The only Rover I ever had was a 3 litre SD1. I saw it a few years after I’d changed it and it was a complete rust bucket.
  11. That’s funny ‘cause I had my delivery yesterday. I do live a bit closer though.
  12. Mine looks very much like that plus I have a laser sight. The Fenman was also made by Theoben. I went to the ‘factory’ in Cambridgeshire when they were producing. It was not much more than a shed. The rifle itself I bought from Walkers of Trowell. I did have the diver’s air bottle checked and refilled quite some years ago but I don’t use it a lot these days. There’s plenty to shoot at round here but I find the preparation of pigeons and rabbits for the table is too much of a pain to be worthwhile. I must get some targets set up and have a go now it’s Spring again. With a laser sight you can’t
  13. How about my Theoben Rapid Seven then Rog?
  14. I went to check the clocks in our cars and they hadn’t advanced but it was a simple matter to do it. I went on line to see others’ experiences and discovered that they would have changed when the engines were started. As they are part of the sat nav I suppose I should have expected that.
  15. So that’s what Rolf Harris is doing now he’s out!
  16. If there were more people like you Rog and fewer people like me, the world would be a better place!
  17. The British Horological Institute Museum at Upton near Southwell is open today and tomorrow. If you’re into clocks etc it’s worth a visit. Always open on the weekends when the clocks alter.
  18. Rog will do that for you when he brings the dinner round.
  19. Oh no I won’t. I’m going to bed an hour earlier. The buggers can’t rob me.
  20. Yes, we avoided those but there’s always something lurking amongst the obscure channels if you persevere.
  21. I’m sure Rog has a spare he can let you have.
  22. He looks a miserable old bugger. That could have been a picture of me 20 years ago!
  23. So sorry to hear of Chulla's death. He was a knowledgeable and interesting contributor to the forum. My condolences.
