  1. Like ‘house’ being pronounced so it rhymes with ‘mice’
  2. @philmayfield I don’t think I talk posh and I come from Woodthorpe! But we often don’t ‘hear’ our own accent… Anyone who has heard me speaking…… do I talk posh?
  3. @Jill Sparrow we also use SystmOnline for ordering our repeat prescriptions - very quick and easy
  4. Reading all the posts about problems with GP surgeries, I feel very fortunate here in a fen village as I just send them a message on ‘Askmygp’ stating any health isssues we may have, and they phone up the same days to assess whether we need a face to face appt or not. The nurses at the surgery do annual blood tests (and BP) for us and the doctors follow up any abnormalities. We really are very fortunate …. n
  5. @mary1947 I’m surprised that you can’t get your ears syringed for free at the GP surgery. It must just be a local decision as we can get ours done at no cost - the nurse does standard syringing and if there is a problem eg previous perforated eardrum, then you get an appt at an NHS clinic to have it suctioned out. @Jill Sparrow. I have never had nits neither have our children - just luck I suppose….
  6. Paul and I went to see one of the whales (there were 3 according to the ‘whale thread’ that CT posted - Hercules, Goliath and Jonah). It was in Leicester and I think we had at least one of our children with us so it must have been in the late 60s/early 70s.
  7. Col, Perhaps it would have been better to forget about the swimming until your body had got used to the new meds? But I know you like pushing yourself a bit!!! Hope the symptoms/side effects will settle down now. Poor Grace - has she got a full (bent) arm plaster cast on with an arm sling?
  8. CT Blackberries round here are still small and green - it’s probably because there’s not been enough rain. Some are still only flowers ! It’ll be nearly a couple of months before they are ready for picking.
  9. I understand woke as being alert to injustice in whatever form it takes, and wanting to put it right. This may be attempted by our actions or words, but woke is actually internal - something you FEEL. I realise this is an oversimplification ….
  10. @mary1947 I’ve never ever bought a scratch card so probably won’t do that! I could bring something edible for us all for after the meal, though?
  11. I don’t know about ‘well done’ Lizzie - it obviously took no effort on my part But it’s certainly raised the average level of interest!
  12. I did really well with mine this month as well! (A four figure number!) usually it’s nothing, 25 or 50
  13. @mary1947 congratulations on your win. It’s like a reward for buying those 12 scratch cards!!
  14. Did he have a Russian wife or am I getting him mixed up with someone else?
  15. Science fiction often turns out not to be fiction after all!
  16. Col, that was an interesting read. I never knew that it was Prigozhin who, as head of the ‘Internet Research Agency’ worked hard to get Trump elected in 2016! Or maybe that’s not accurate - with all the conflicting statements we can read,, it’s getting more and more like in the book ‘1984’. I expect we’ll soon be told we are at war with the US and friends with Russia!!!! (and that this has always been so)
  17. Nonna, very touching and fascinating stories. Thank you for sharing this x
  18. 1966. Cost of our 3 bedroom end of terrace with lovely big garden £2800 Mortgage rate 4% (I think) I think it was only the husband’s salary that was taken into consideration in those days, certainly in our case. I feel it was when a second person’s salary was also considered that people could afford to borrow more, causing house prices to increase quite a bit. Perhaps building companies and estate agents thought ‘If people can afford to borrow that much then we can raise the prices of the houses’ Or am I oversimplifying this? It was just a
  19. @mary1947 Your mum must have been very talented - was that her full time job or just a hobby?
  20. Hello again Brew! Great to see you’re back again x
  21. My favourite licquorice allsorts are the round pink or yellow ones with licquorice in the centre. That’s what I can see at the top Of the picture
  22. That’s beautiful @Beekay but it looks like my favourite Licquorice Allsort on the top bit? I think you are very talented …..
  23. By the time the pigeon’s been plucked, gutted, cracked open and dejointed there’s not much meat to see!
  24. Wow Jill, I think we may have quite a bit in common! My mum always used to say ‘Much wants more’ too ..,,
  25. I won’t bite your head off Jill. I partly agree with you, although there would probably still be a huge gap between the ‘haves and have nots’ even with fewer people on Earth, because I think human nature causes most people to wamt to protect their own interests by acquiring more and more land/territory and other stuff to the detriment of those who have very little. The Bible calls this greed and selfishness, sin. Also, with fewer people around I wonder who would feed all the cats
