  1. Too right Benjamin. Even Italians frown on public kissing between homosexuals
  2. My mum recalls when she was younger and they had an outside toilet. Her family kept a chicken in the back yard called Larty. It never let her go into the loo and chased her round the yard. Eventually its neck was pulled and it was served at the dinner table. She refused to touch it.
  3. We are all foreigners arent we and have foreign habits. It would be a dull world doing what everyone else is doing. Wonder what other countries think of the Brits habits. Could be interesting!
  4. A cousin in France is manageress in a perfumeria and when they visit she always comes laden with samples of many things. She brings all the large bottles of tester perfumes and after shaves etc. At the moment I have eau de rochas Fraise, black opium, j'dore and boucheron. Husband gets loads of mens face creams and after shave creams including Diego della Palma, 1881, Azzaro blue notte. Too many to use every day but they are nice and .....free.
  5. Snakes are quite common here too , you have to be careful walking through long grass. Washing the kitchen floor last year the mop touched the skirting board and out shot a small snake. Just got a brush and brushed it out. The dog went mad.
  6. Hugging , its a usual greeting accompanied by a kiss on each cheek even between men. Its a nice gesture. It would seem strange here if it disappeared.
  7. When I was at school I loved PE and was very good at it especially vaulting. I hated games but if I could I would have passed all my time with PE. I belonged to the vaulting club, but on leaving school I didnt carry on with it. I wish I had because it was a real shame because I think it would have helped me avoid the problems I have with my back.
  8. We have to have our side and headlights (on dip) night and day here in Italy. It does become automatic like fastening your seatbelt.
  9. Didn't find an appropriate place to put this but thought this was the right place . ( foodwise) This is my 95 almost mum just about to start on a pizza. Not really it was a family size one. But thought it a great photo.
  10. #749 Here in Italy women keep their maiden names. My ID is in my maiden name and is very confusing when I use my married name. I no longer have a british passport, an ID is easier to carry.
  11. Did a silly thing yesterday. Fancied copying Plantfits peach turn overs with flaky pastry. I'd got some filo pastry so thought I would make little baskets of it , hanging over a cup for the shape. They turned out really nice looking. The only thing was I forgot to grease the cups and they stuck like glue. I had to break the pastry off and leave the cups soaking. This afternoon I made three crostate and 11/2 dozen scones. I now have 4 left after having tea and scones for snack ( in 4 of us) and giving 5 to my granddaughter for her snack on returning from school. Tomorrow is biscuit da
  12. I bought them every year. Only tried bringing them in one winter but they didnt recover. Now I buy Surfinias. In fact Ive just finished potting them all in tubs.
  13. No the original photo won't upload. We only had half the cake so you've only got half the photo.
  14. Lemon and Limoncello cake whats the matter with photobucket this morning. He's been at the limoncello I bet.
  15. dont know what happened there . Will try again. Maybe the " mice" have even eaten the link
  16. <a href="http://s827.photobucket.com/user/nonnifelici/media/image_zpsmxsecmji.jpeg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i827.photobucket.com/albums/zz198/nonnifelici/image_zpsmxsecmji.jpeg" border="0" alt=" photo image_zpsmxsecmji.jpeg"/></a> The cake turned out beautifully and was very yellow as I'd used very yellow yolked eggs that are used for making homemade pasta. This morning the " mice or that stranger that comes and goes" has finished it off.
  17. Just give me 24 hrs notice. Remember if you're coming by car can you bring me some cheddar and a pack of streaky smoked bacon.
  18. Result . Well the cake turned out beautifully soft. I added lemon zest and 1 tbsp limoncello. For the topping I did the same as Plantfit but used limoncello instead of whisky. Cake cooled down as my daughter came over, made two small slices for us to try. Result.......mum it's awful, "are you sure" she insisted....then picked up the plate and said" bye see you later". It was really , really delicious. Went out this morning and was out until about 4 pm. The cake was still on the plate but half was missing. Now there is only a quarter left ! Oh I did put a few cubes of crystall
  19. Got all ingredients weighed and measured, panic .....no whisky. Every spirit and liquore imaginable but no whisky. Brandy ? Noooo. Last of homemade Limoncello seeing as it has lemon zest in. Yes I think that will work....( hope so) result later came back to recipe because I couldnt remember amount of whisky
  20. Commo words don't seem to be enough in a situation like this. When my brother was ill and he'd been given this terrible news I said to him that I didnt know what to say. He agreed and told me to just carry on talking about the first thing that came into my head. Thats difficult under the circumstances but we tried and managed to joke a little. There is nothing one can do to ease the heartache but take time to enjoy each others company and remember the happier times. A big hug to you both.
  21. I second everything that has previously been said. Cancer is a terrible illness that not only affects the person concerned but the whole family. The initial shock is being told and it takes time to take in. Make the most of the time you have together and enjoy each others company to the full, maybe remembering the funny and enjoyable things you did together. When my brother was terminally ill I remember when we were kids and spent our school holidays at our grandparents who lived by the sea. We went fishing in the local park and my brother was trying to catch a big stickleback and
  22. I remember when my son was small he made a mothers day card for me. It said, My mother has red hair and is always smiling happy mothers day.
  23. Catfan if the pizza is good its even better the following day even for breakfast. I made 5 giant ones yesterday . Five of us got through 2 1/2 the other two and a half went into the freezer, Believe it or not if we have and pasta left after a meal we cover it with cling film until the following day and then fry it in a little olive oil or butter ,its even better as it has absorbed all the lovely flavours. Dont know if a bought pizza would taste the same the next morning though. Pisa the tower and pizza the food. Depends where you come from. One of our friends is from Veneto a
