  1. Since this thread has been revived, I'd like to nominate Early Doors.
  2. Got Only the Lonely and Blue Angel from the radio shop in Vernon Road, Basford, and was listening to him only yesterday in the car, with the Traveling Wilburys.
  3. Can I have five more please? For grandads who have the time to enjoy with their grandchildren what they lacked with their own children, to their lasting regret: Cat's in the cradle - Harry Chapin The Circle Game - Tom Rush Father and Son - Cat Stevens The Living Years - Mike and the Mechanics Scarlet Ribbons - Harry Belafonte And to cheer me up again Sit Down - James Love and Affection - Joan Armatrading Fun Fun Fun - Beach Boys Eight Days a Week - Beatles The Weight - The Band
  4. Anybody tried the car boot sale at the cattle market in Melton Mowbray? It's the real deal. And another thing, why do most car boot sales start at the crack of dawn and begin closing down by noon? If they started in, say, the afternoon, surely they would attract more buyers.
  5. The same, Oz. A Childrens Favourites favourite. Along with Nellie the Elephant, The Laughing Policeman, Little Red Monkey, Teddy Bears Picnic, and Little White Duck.
  6. It's 56 years today since Eddie Cochran was killed. Along with Brian Clough and my dad, he was one of my boyhood heroes.
  7. Is that the hallucinogenic tonic, Michael, or the moolah?
  8. So your entire reason to exist is contained in your head, and the rest of your body is dispensable/interchangeable? I'll have to get my head round that one.
  9. James Taylor - Sweet baby James Sibelius - Karelia Suite Patti Smith - Because the Night Kasabian - Fire Seekers - Island of Dreams Ask again tomorrow, and the list would be completely different.
  10. You've lost me on Electrons, Holes etc, Engineer, but what is the prevalent official view on the relationship between the free (non-floating) ice and the risk of rising sea levels as a result of global warming? Is it a 'steady state' situation?
  11. When water freezes, its volume expands, which is why cold water pipes burst. So if a glass full of water is allowed to freeze, when it thaws, the ice will return to its original volume as water and, hey presto, a glass full of water! So I say 'global warming? Bring it on', but I live on a hill, so I should be ok.
  12. An interesting topic, irrespective of your belief in the significance of global warming. There's a lot of ice about which isn't presently afloat. The south pole is at an altitude of around 2700m, of which all but 100m is the ice cap. Keeps me awake at night.
  13. Used to lust after a girl who lived in Basford Hospital in the 60s. Linda Bradley. I assume her parents had a live in job there. Used to be able to get into the grounds from the railway embankment, via Halfpenny bridge. Once fell out of a big tree checking out a bird's nest; must have been 15 foot drop, but just got up and walked away.
  14. I've had this hanging on my bog wall for around 35 years. It's one of a handful of my possessions which I would try to rescue in the event of a fire. https://www.dropbox.com/s/p4po2e178eso6bh/small%20Nottingham%20Vic%201957%20%281%20of%201%29.jpg?dl=0
  15. Order a takeaway while you are in the pub, and ask for it to be delivered to your home, then go round to the takeaway and get a lift.
  16. The app is 'Photos', not 'Pictures'.
  17. Windows 10 comes bundled with a 'Pictures' application, which I have found very useful. I used to load new shots into Lightroom/Photoshop, but now I just initially go through them in Pictures and give the ones I plan on keeping an auto enhance. It works well, has a decent range of basic editing functions, and handles RAW files with ease.
  18. Beefsteak - #15. Better late than never! That film was Incident at Owl Creek. It had a great influence on me too. I always looked out for Sam Kydd. And the Love Train, where Arthur Askey, as a railway engine driver, stopped his train on a viaduct to watch a football match at Burnden Park.
  19. I've got a tube of wasabi in my pull out which I bought in Tesco. It's been there for about three years; I must get round to using it, but I've no idea how.
  20. It's years since I used to frequent the City Ground, but back in the early 60s Forest fans were renowned for leaving 10 minutes before the end, irrespective of the score. I can still see them streaming over Trent Bridge to catch the 43 bus!
  21. I should have said 'Bloody Greta Garbo'!
