  1. I have to admit it's a bit Tom Sharpe, what were the council thinking when they approved it? Like a lot of contemporary stuff people are so afraid of being called Philistines because they 'don't get it' they will go along with almost anything. That includes 120 building bricks lying on the floor - well worth £120,000 of anybody's money. A steel cube with holes in it, a dirty old bed and a carbuncle of a market square.
  2. Now now Col it's one mans opinion and although extreme making derogatory comments serves no purpose. As suppositions go that's a bit of a leap. I and I suspect many others consider Corbyn to be about as far left as he can be without taking the title of commissar. McDonnell and the shadowy Momentum are unashamedly 'far left' along with everyone's favourite hypocrite and racist Dianne Abbot. A quick Google returns hundreds of web pages that acknowledge Johnson et al. as you describe with the exception of the term 'malicious', many of the
  3. I do, how can I make an informed choice unless I consider views other than my own? I'm not so arrogant that I think I'm always right, indeed I'm often wrong but unless my mistakes are pointed out I will continue to make the same mistakes ad infinitum. That's rather the point of this topic. I met Col at the meeting and he's a decent bloke, wrong of course but decent and I see it as my duty to turn him from the dark side...
  4. Corbyn did mention it in his humble pie speech but no one is making a big issue of it Col for the simple reason it's not true. You have a bee in your bonnet about the media, the Mail and the BBC in particular, yet none of the losing candidates are making a fuss about it or even pointing a finger. The old adage 'seek and ye shall find' is true. Look for bogeymen and you will see them. It's easy to look for someone to blame but the truth is plain to see, Corbyn is the worst leader Labour has had in the last fifty years. Even Michael Foot did better. I can't see a problem with Parliam
  5. Never thought the beast would be tamed...
  6. I'm not so disparaging about ordinary peoples ability to understand what Labour was all about. Labour themselves say the manifesto was their most radical for fifty years They are on TV right now still saying it and trying desperately to avoid saying Brexit is the single important factor in theses results.
  7. It may be too early but yes, the Tories look like they have the majority they wanted. Corbyn led Labour with silly, outrageous promises that many simply did not believe and did so 'on the fly', ignoring the manifesto and dreamed up numbers as the thought occurred to him. His indecision over Brexit, mind bending borrowing figures and his 'credible' plan in three months revealed a man befuddled and seemingly unable to grasp reality. Leadership has lost Labour the best chance in a long time of gaining power. Col says Corbyn is too honest but it’s more than that. *Leaders need
  8. I'm ashamed to tell you my result...
  9. I'm rather nuanced out at the moment Col it seems to me it means 'let's look for a complex solution to a simple problem'. It takes many decades because of the sheer size of the debt and we can't see the future or what is going to derail the plans. Nor can we say if it harms the country or not. Who knows where we would be had we not been saddled with billions and billions of debt? It is about reducing costs, it's not asset stripping or attacking anything except where self-aggrandising councils need reigning in. The government do not decide where the

  11. Did you use your E-mail programme to reply to them? Some automatically save the address of people you mail and alerts you if that person contacts you again.
  12. Seems they want anyone who has ever passed through to register and vote with the specific aim of ousting the Blessed Boris. On that basis I can claim a vote in virtually every constituency in the land after 60 years of travelling up and down for work. The Rowntree Trust Ltd is a Quaker/Liberal organisation (that's paying for this), that wants openness and fairness in politics, fine, very laudable. Sponsoring an organisation that targets a specific party and acts against it seems slightly 'off' to me. The Boaty Mc yadayada group are encouraging people to register
  13. Copper Sulphate, isn't that the stuff we used to grow crystals from with our junior chemistry set?
  14. I think one lunatic party is enough really........................... I was to add something here but Col would have been all over me!
  15. T This is way too much much Col. I'll try and keep my answer to a more succinct level. There are so many point to cover quoting will be a pain so I’m going intersperse my answer and make it red for ease of reading What I was actually doing was demonstrating that out of something like £20Bn. PER YEAR of borrowing, or around £200 Bn total, the examples of investment you provided only account for a small fraction. So.. if you see public spending on services and benefits slashed, while tax breaks are given to the wealthiest and to corporations, then the obvious net effect

  22. I was teamed with a guy with whom, err, relations were a little less than cordial. I was off next day, he damned near broke my arm rolling into the recovery position.
  23. Apart from the inordinate amount of time and money it cost what annoys me most is the design. When you apply to the council for planning permission one of the things they consider is the design relative to the surrounding buildings and if it's 'sympathetic'. How a minimalist empty space fits in with the 18th and 19th century architecture is beyond me. I'm told they are very keen to keep the 'atmosphere' of the city centre and demand the frontages are not changed. One rule for them ... Edit: I've just found out that the area around the Brian Clough statue is an offi
