  1. You are probably right, annswabey. I was somewhat misled as I know someone with a very similar name to Euguet. Enquet means investigation - which fits spot-on with the gist of message.
  2. PP - regarding trout. I think it'would be a mistake to serve such a fine fish with anything resembling Haute cuisine française (or italienne). You obviously know how to cook it so, with such a nice fish serve it very simply with, say, dill butter (chopped fresh dill leaves mixed with butter) lemon juice, plain boiled new potatoes and a green salad. At leBsL we cook trout by bringing the water to the boil, adding a few drops of vinegar then the trout bring back to the boil and immediately turn off the heat. The fish cooks in the residual heat of the water and when cool w
  3. 1.10.18 Euguet Balin (person's name) +age(?) 1.10.18 a.n. fam (family) ? Balin Recherche n'est pas abouti (Balin the search is not successful) 18 XI 18 Communiqué famille (Letter to the family) Does this help?
  4. Just imagine if in 2010 you had met up with Doctor Who just after he had travelled in the Tardis to the year 2020 and back. You ask him what it is going to be like in 2020. Doctor Who explained it thus :- I don’t have much time to explain – I have an appointment in 1836 so I will give you a potted version The year 2020 is going to be nothing short of an absolute shit show. You know Donald Trump, the star of the Apprentice TV show – well, he’s the President of the USA running the Country via Twitter and spouting rabble rousing bluff and bluster. He gets into a Twitter beef with I
  5. Nonna, I know how relieved you must feel. It is a very worrying time for all. I continue to be amazed that, even being so close to Italy, there are no reported cases in Grasse or the surrounding villages, including mine and only relativly few in Cannes - more in Nice, though, which is much more of a commercial city. Best wishes to all in this very worrying time.
  6. Weasels have an amazing ability to squeeze through the tiniest of cracks. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I've just seen Starmer on BBC World News. He seem a quite reasonable and intelligent person. I hope he can do some good.
  7. Oh dear! I hope Cummings doesn't think that gives him free rein to excercise any of his bonkers ideas - bad enough with the Trump.
  8. Whilst discussing dangerous idiots, what has happened/is happening with the BoJo's (un)trained monkey Dominic Cummings? His (undignified) doings and utterances don't seem to be reported down here.
  9. Sorry, in my post of yesterday the second reference to Nice should read Monaco.
  10. We still seem to be having a charmed life here. There are no reported cases of the Covid 19 virus in Grasse or the surrounding areas. None in Cannes either, but fifteen or so in NIce and fifty in Nice. Everyone in the village seems (or claims) to be following the government instructions and they seem to be working.
  11. A follow-on from RR's post here and considering the dire situation we are in, here is the St Matthew Passion (J S Bach). Perfect for Palm Sunday for believers and, well, just perfect for everyone else.
  12. I feel I'm living something of a charmed life at the moment. My little household unit is obeying the government' restrictions and life (for us at least) carries on as normal. There are no reported cases of the virus in Grasse or its environs (including le BsL). The weather is amazingly nice and it's even possible to take a dip in the pool. I do hope it will remain like this. My sympathies go out to everyone suffering from this horror, even if not directly. Especially Italy - we're only a few Km from the Italian border which is very worrying.
  13. ^^^^He had the special "Royal" version - as did Albert of Monaco.^^^^
  14. My report above seems to have disappeared from the news pages. Apologies if I got it wrong - I'm sure it wasn't just in my imagination, though.
  15. I thought that Covid 19 was exclusively a human condition. Just read that Dominic Cummings has self-isolated/quarantined himself. I'm sure the RU will be much better off without him.
  16. Reading today that, in the UK, huge quantities of rotting food are now being thrown away following the recent panic buying.
  17. Am I missing something with all of this virus testing? Within almost no time at all following a test, a person showing a negative result could become infected (perhaps even by the testing personnel) thus rendering the whole process pointless. The only useful test will be the antibody test which will show whether a person had been exposed to the virus and has developed at least some immunity.
  18. As an outsider looking in on the UK leadership I find the above post from DJ360 highly apt. That clip of Cummings literally running away from Downing Street even caught the news channels here
  19. The appearance of Strauss' Four Last Songs on here brought these uppermost in my mind Also From Wagner, the most passionate vocal music of all time: An orgasm in music!!!!!!
  20. Boris appears to have the "royal" mild version previously reserved for Charles and Albert of Monaco.
  21. I'm really sorry to hear about your wife, md. I don't know quite what the Russian situation is regarding the virus but, they were very keen to keep all information to themselves for quite a prolonged period. Somewhere else that is proving something of an enigma is the situation in North Korea. It is not wholly surprising that they are keeping things somewhat quiet but it is worrying that nothing all all is coming out, either officially or by leaks. Where is all the bombast that is usually shown by the despotic leadership in that country?
  22. As of this moment, there are no reported cases of the Covid 19 virus in Grasse or the surroundings where I live (le BsL) - we are very lucky although we are taking all the precautions dictated by the government which are:- Go to work, if remote working is not possible; Go to your local grocery store; Go to a medical appointment; Take your children to daycare or to take care of an elderly person; To work out close to your home. These are much the same as in the UK, I believe. On the whole, the locals are behaving very well but, apparently
  23. Just heard that the heir to the British throne has tested positive for the virus.
  24. All of this will be over by Easter - the Trump says so: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-52029546
