barclaycon 569
That article on Herman van Rompuy just shows what a complete gravy train the whole thing is. When these useless politico's get jobs like that in the EU they must think that they have won the lottery. It's incredible how the EU squanders our money on these pathetic, under-achieving, also-rans who were useless in their own domestic political systems. Same with Barroso and Romano Prodi - extremely average non-achievers who managed to land highly paid, 'low-workload' jobs in the EU with gold plated pensions at the end and lots of benefits. Look at some of the tossers that we sent there, like Peter Mandelson - a man who got fired twice for dodgy dealings and yet ended up with a millionaire lifestyle at the EU. A picture of him some time after, making a speech at some conference about socialism, showed him wearing a £14,000 watch. A real man of the people ! Neil Kinnock and his wife..... The whole world of politics has become one of power and privelege rather than public service. At a time when governments are trying to absolve themselves of reponsibilities, I think we are entitled to ask what they actually do and why they are paid so much.
Bubblewrap 3,815
* Garnier yesterday referred to anyone earning under £150,000 as "dog end voters in outlying regions of the country". £150,000 that's about 15 YEARS of my pension. So is that what the Tories really think of us at the bottom of the pile? Don't for get he like the rest of us still has to go for a shit. But when he goes for a shit it comes out of the wrong end.
Bubblewrap 3,815
And what Mr Garnier should remember is that there are more of us that earn less than £150,000 than more & we all have votes. In fact how many people get £50,000 a year(over £900 a week) A case of engaging brain(if he has one)before opening mouth.
siddha 825
Politics these days is a business and not a vocation. I think that those earlier 20th Century politicians, not dedicated to preserving a wealthocracy, had some commitment to public good and social improvement for UK "citizens" (sorry! Subjects). I think it is proper that we should challenge the obscene excesses outlined above AND those of the non political classes who regularly exploit our societies needs and all working people for their own gain. We should do our best to make these points wherever we can through legitimate channels of communication. I would encourage anybody feeling strongly about these matters to write to the individuals concerned setting out principled objections.

Bubblewrap 3,815
The only way is to vote them out(it's the only message they will understand) & even then most of them will get a job(back hander) in the city they are still parasites.

barclaycon 569
The whole point about voting for politicians is that they are supposed to do all the things that we don't have time to do. They are put in positions of power and paid handsomely to administer things - therefore they should always be accountable to us. They're not royalty. They don't have a God-given right to a 5 star lifestyle. It seems that more and more, governments are trying to absolve themselves of responsibility whilst at the same time soaking up more of our money. And the EU wants total and unquestioning obedience to decisions made by un-named, un-accountable Eurocrats. You just don't know who has made some of the stupid decisons that come out of Strasbourg. But you must adhere to their diktats and pay for the privelege of being in the club! We can't all be political activists and anyway why should we be ? We are entitled to expect MP's to work for our benefit, rather than their own self-interest.

siddha 825
Every politician should be forced to wear clothing with the logos or names of the people who give them money. Like racing car drivers. They should not be allowed to be in public, or in the HoC, or perform their politician-duties, without the source of their funding clearly visible to everyone they interact with
