Has anyone had reflexology?

Recommended Posts

Three yrs ago I had a course of reflexology for various problems and it put me straight. Now with all the problems I'm having I started it again last Monday. Reflexology can go either way at first. It can improve your state of health or can temporally worsen it. This time the day after treatment I was full of pains that are continuing today, but I am optimistic that keeping going will do me more good than all the physio I've had so far. I am also starting to eliminate certain foods. Since Christmas I've eaten a lot of sweet things , biscuits and cakes ( hello Carni ) and when I have a lot of pain out comes the biscuit tin with a cup of tea. For a bit of self pity.  I love baking so when I'm bored that's what I do. I never buy cakes or biscuits because I don't like the Italian ones. Anyway drifting away ( as you do ) I decided to watch and record what I eat to see if it makes any difference to how I feel. I still had my cereal this morning with a herbal tea. (Not really into them but I'll try) Lunch some fish plus raw fennel. Have to think about tonight. I don't eat much red meat in fact none so maybe do some green veg with eggs.

Sorry if this post isn't the right sort but it's a bit different and maybe of interest to some and to others it might be Bolony.

I gave a like to your post Nonna, not because of your problems but because you are trying to help yourself and not relying on others to cure your problems, (power of the mind and all that) I really hope it works for you

It’s a treatment you’ve got to have faith in. There’s no scientific evidence for it’s efficacy but as an old doctor friend used to say to me - ‘if it works!’

Phil that's what I always thought. But having this form of treatment it makes you think, the other day the reflexologist pressed a certain part of my foot and it made me jump, it hurt. Then she told me exactly where I was hurting. She  pressed the same point on the other foot and I was fine, I wasn't hurting on that side. This was done repeatedly with other points with the same reaction. She went on to show me an experiment. She pressed somewhere on my foot and told me exactly what to expect. It was an area that I had no pain but pressing this area I had pain. I do not have anything at all wrong with my hips according to 5 specialists but it's my lower back ( lumbago) and hips that give me the most trouble. Everything is connected in one way or another and to hear things explained in that way really puts it all into prospective. I agree that sometimes faith in something gives you the strength to carry on?

Many years ago, I did a course in aromatherapy and holistic massage. There was a follow on course on reflexology and it looked very interesting but not enough people were interested in doing it.

Like acupuncture, it works for some and not others. Faith, I suspect, has very little to do with it as acupuncture has achieved measurable results on animals.

As I've said before, I don't relish the idea of prescription drugs so would always give alternative therapies a whirl.

Jill I also did a course on aromatherapy it was coupled with yoga that I wanted to and wasn't into aromatherapy at all. It was extremely interesting and it's come in very useful in every day happenings. During the summer we have a lot of mosquitoes and I'm forever bitten I use lavender along with aloe vera  and I forget all about it. My grand daughter is also prone to them I keep telling her mother to use lavender but as most dil know everything, she uses a conventional cream that in the end although gives a bit of relief leaves a purple mark. When my god is with me and she marvels at how she's got relief with no marks.

Did the aromatherapy and holistic massage course first at night school in the early 90s. Not enough interest in the reflexology course but I would have liked to do it. Instead, we did a meditation course and, as I was already doing yoga, the two combined well. They have stood me in good stead.

I am fortunate that nothing ever bites me. An advantage inherited from my father and his father!

Contagious -- It is.

Like a lot of our language its roots are Greek.  The word 'logos' = word.

Thus physiology the word about physical body.

Psychology - Psyche = Soul.  Thus the word about the soul.

Pharmacology  Word about drugs - root of the word Pharmacist.

Theology  Theos = God  Logy = word  The word about God.

We could choose more but I think you will get it.

There you are boys and girls, Your lesson in Greek roots for today.   I was amazed when I took Greek, at how many of our words come from the language.

I studied Latin for two, maybe three years at school. In those days certain medical schools required an O level in Latin for entry. I’ve found it useful in doing crosswords, legal terminology and reading ancient tombstones in churches. The Shorter Latin Primer was the key book and I believe it’s still in use today.

I wonder why the word 'uxorious'  only applies to men and their wives, and not women and their husbands....

Maritus.. husband , marito also husband but don't know what the Latin is for wife ... moglie in Italian so it can't be far away from something similar. Just saying !

Moglie   HmmmI I thought that was what Jill enjoyed keeping.  Several of 'em.

Sorry to hijack the thread a bit, but all that talk about Latin sent me on a weird rabbit trail.

Anybody remember Billy Bunter on BBC back in the fifties?    BBC, that's all there was.  Poor old Billy wouldn't be pc these days.

Anyway I remember him conjugating Latin verbs while Quelch stood over him ready to bash him.  Then he would demand that Billy read a passage from Virgil.  That was painful.

I used to be scared that this is what secondary mod would be like.  Thankfully it wasn't.

My father was an avid Billy Bunter fan. He had collected Magnet and Gem papers from childhood, buying them from Walter Hayes' shop in Beeston. On his 80th birthday, I gave him some Greyfriars annuals I bought at auction. Never seen anyone so pleased! Not pc now, of course...Ram Jam Singh, etc.
