Chulla 4,946
Loppy, as I suppose you know, a lot of Americans would not have a health system like the NHS because it cries Socialism. I have seen them on TV loudly detesting anything that reminds them of Communism or any other socialist regime. They would sooner suffer the American way. Interesting, though, that a socialist-minded Democrat has just done well in the New Hampshire primaries.
loppylugs 8,429
That's right Chulla. Most of 'em don't seem smart enough to differentiate between socialism and communism. They will willingly buy insurance for life, house, or car. Car insurance is compulsory. They do not seem to understand the concept of many sharing the financial burdens of others. Thus to them, government administered health insurance = Communism. So we go on paying ever increasing prices for mediocre service and an increasing reliance on expensive medications. As you noted Sanders is the closest thing to a hard core socialist this country has ever seen. They just don't get it. Better quit here don't want to get too political and get the thread locked.
Bing 78
LizzieM, do be careful if you choose to live outside the UK that you choose a country where your pensions are increased yearly. I live in Thailand and my pension will never increase. but i still pay UK income tax.
OurGeorgeInOz 0
Just found this website again, after visiting many moons ago, mi 'duck. Currently living at the Gold Coast, Australia and have been for 'eaps n eaps' of years. Used to live 'dahn the medders' before it was bulldozed. I used to go to Mundella Grammar school (59-64). We left in 1964 to go to Australia, been back to notnum 14 times, twice for a year each time. Just love the UK countryside where you can walk every day (did the 3 peaks - Yorks in 1994) and didn't need an umbrella! I could ramble-on for lots more, but, alas, nostalgia is not what it used to be. In these COVID-19 times, stay safe. George

If you're returning, you must've used a different name to log in during your previous visits. Presumably you forgot your password etc.
