Guest Anne
Has anybody been in the Strelley Broad Oak recently. I have lots of memories...I wonder if it is still the same as I remember it! I don't suppose it is..in time everything changes. Another pub I never hear mentioned is The Beacon..I wonder if that one is still there. I bet if they are still open they don't sell HP..not even HP sauce!
Stan 386
Anne, there were a couple of recent entries about the Broad Oak on the site recently. Is there a search facility on the site ,Mick?

Guest Anne
Often said that both the Cocked Hat and the Beacon on Aspley Lane had a couple of outside parking slots painted 'AMBULANCE'... Cheers Robt P. I got it...this is such a large site now it will take me years to go through it all..so thanks for the link me ducks. Now I hope I am doing this right..I've never used a quote before so fingers crossed. The Beacon was quite a walk from Maltby Close where I lived, but I used to walk with my Dad sometimes, his real local was The Cocked Hat, they must have taken a fortune off him through the years, until he could walk no more. No matter who was visiting or what was happening, he had to go! His mates would have a pint waiting if he didn't arrive on time and he always wanted to get there first! "Cheers"
Guest Anne
Must tell you the Cocked Hat was quite refined back in my day The Cocked Hat was squeaky clean and the gardens could have won a prize..they were gorgeous with swings and seesaw beyond the gardens for us kids. Guest Anne
I was just thinking about some of the shops I used to go in. There was Stansby's chemist on Nuthall road and Fords clothing store . Newbolds beer off and Pinketts sweet shop. On Broxtowe Lane at the 'top shops' there was Lucy Briggs and Horsleys and Oldbury's shoe shop and Ellis's cake and bread shop as well as Farrands. My favourite cakes were blackcurrant creams!!!

Now there's 3 names that I'd totally forgotten! Do you remember Priestley's [draper/wool etc] & Broadhead the cobbler, both at Broxtowe Lane bottom shops? Cheers Robt P. Guest Anne
Mornin Caz, so your lips are sealed! I wonder what you know and we'd like to find out! You're right BF it was/is a good busy pub and was/is situated just right. Lovely setting too.
rob237 89
Yes...I also recall happy times at the 'Three Ponds'. IIRC, there was an especially pleasant large rear garden, which sat below the level of the pub. They also sold a variety of sea foods, cockles/mussels etc, during the 50's/60's... Cheers Robt P.
