katyjay 5,091
Just spotted that he'd died at age 91. I had forgotten all about him, he was on the telly a lot in the 60's.
jackson 301
Remembering Bert; he was on a show every Wednesday with Muriel Young back in the 50's / 60's. Thought him pleasant but boring; however, he was very well respected by up and coming musicians such as Pete Townshend of 'The Who'. Always had a Smile did Bert
jackson 301
Bert Weedon, considered to be an Expert on the guitar; he published a book that many guitarists within the groups back then - 60's - considered a Bible. :) For Bert, ever smiling. God Bless.
Fynger 841
The man with the twangy sound.
jackson 301
Jeff Beck learnt the guitar through studying Bert's book. There'll be a lot of musicians who established themselves during the 60's upset by Bert's passing.

FLY2 10,109
Try and keep up RR, you're normal good at resurrecting dormant topics.
BeestonMick 263
I had that book as well but it didn't lead me to greatness, not in a musical sense anyway.
Ayupmeducks 1,730
Didn't he have a TV show on how to play the guitar?
PeverilPeril 3,291
Yep - we all had Bert Weedon's book. Learnt a few chords but changed to G banjo. Was that a Hoffner guitar?
BeestonMick 263
Didn't he have a TV show on how to play the guitar? I believe he did + he used to show up on other muso type programs playing in bands. Was that a Hoffner guitar? Yes, he had several different models including a Golden, Committee and Club. I've also seen him playing a Yamaha SG and a Gibson ES (lucky boy)
philmayfield 6,203
Yep - we all had Bert Weedon's book. Learnt a few chords but changed to G banjo. Was that a Hoffner guitar? That looks like a Hofner Committee, the model I used to covet in Jack Brentnalls window. Had to settle for the cheaper Congress which I still have!
BeestonMick 263
What year was that guitar in Brentnall's window do you know, I might have played it? I used to do repairs for them and take the repaired gear back on a Friday night and sometimes have a jam with the salesman in the shop, who's name has totally left me. I even had a go on the drums one time which didn't work out that well. I bought my first Strat from there. They wouldn't let me anywhere near the Boosey and Hawkes gear though, I probably wouldn't be able to get a tune out of it it anyway.
philmayfield 6,203
Mick It would have been 1959/60 when I was around 17. Phil
Oztalgian 3,332
I started off with "Play in a Day" before I had lessons using my Watkins Rapier 33 and a small Vox amp. Still got some notations from it somewhere.
