  1. The end result is that roads are now littered with broken ratchet straps, the hooks and tensioners of which are lethal to motorcycles. Everything now has to be secured to the loadbed; internal straps on curtainsider trailers are pretty much banned. VOSA, or DVSA as rhey're now called, are self-financing and much depends if you get pulled on how well you pass the attitude test.   2. Things I have learned today: 1. Jet washing the drive and patio is mind-numbingly boring 2. The spot inspector will immediately see the one bit of moss I missed 3. Moss, when hit with a 100psi water jet, travels a surprising distance 4. The spot inspector whilst primping her new 'hair do' is very good at stopping said moss with her forehead (right between the eyes) 5. Yours truly at nearly 73 years of age can go from 'oh sh*t' to flat out down the road in less than 0.001 of a second I may be gone for awhile...

  3. Have to agree Loppy, seems lots of us have the pressure washer out at the moment, talk about being a kid again I write my name with it just to annoy SWMBO and if she dare come out the house well

  4. Test drive in Volvo was a good one may go for it, the main point i wanted to say was i mentiond sidesteps and said i didn't know anything about them. He looked at me then my car and said they are fitted on the Discovery no wonder they are nimble, in my defense i used to drive a mini.

  7. ^^^^^^Might have known HSE would get involved. Wonder if the person who made that particular ruling had ever seen the tension on the ropes when its done properly... the answer of course would be a resounding NO!!!

  9. I’ve just discovered a very interesting website for those who want more info. about the carriage of goods along the Trent. trentbasin.co.uk It’s quite comprehensive and I’ve not studied it yet but it will be of interest to the many historians who inhabit this site!

  10. That's what makes this Forum so interesting. Without the meanderings who would have thought to start a thread about oil barges on the Trent? Something about which I knew very little and now pleased to have this info stored in my cornucopia of Nottingham facts!
