  1. My son also grew a beard in lockdown but I have to admit it does suit him! Back to the dress code, why are some blokes still wearing shorts this weather? Can understand the posties wearing them cos there’s a bit of a competition going on there. I’m all muffled up this weather if I’m out, bobble hat, scarf and duvet coat. Maybe it’s cos I’m getting old or just cos I like to be warm.
  2. I see that Keir Starmer was in Loughborough today visiting flood areas with the Charnwood Borough Council Chair. I went to Pilates this morning and the flood damage en route through Hathern and Long Whatton shows the damage. Numerous houses flooded. I guess the whole country is similar. Thank goodness we live quite high up.
  3. Barrie, why did you fall out of bed in the first place ?
  4. Flooding pretty bad in Leics too, several roads impassable still.
  5. Very happy birthday to you Mary, hope you’ve treated yourself to some winning lottery tickets today!

    Cats !

This little “angel” has just brought me a mouse in. Good job I keep the kitchen door shut at night.
  7. The link brought back a whole lot of memories about the Dancing Slipper in WB, the Union Boat Club, Scamps, the Sandpiper, Hippo and the 99 above the WB Hotel. Good times.
  8. I’ve left my Christmas lights up which is far later than I normally would. Just brightens everywhere up a bit. My back garden is under water but still not as bad as a lot of the villages and roads around our local River Soar.
  9. Happy New Year to one and all. May everyone be healthy, happy and loved in 2024.
  10. Sorry, can see that Phil has already answered that one. Must pay more attention!
  11. Was the pub/eatery opposite C&A the Sawyers?
  12. This is a really interesting article. https://apple.news/AyqZCsWMgTPGLP3Yk52KJDw
  13. Merry Christmas and all the best for 2024 Nottstalgians. I was a day early with my Christmas breakfast of pork pie and toast this morning (who cares I enjoyed it)Just waiting on my roasties finishing off to go with the honey and mustard glazed ham tonight. Yum.
  14. I can remember the Light programme on the car radio when my mum, dad and I used to take my brother to Birmingham where he did his mechanical engineering apprenticeship at BSA but came home for weekends. Also the shipping forecast and “sing something simple” Can also remember tuning in at home to the police frequency, always seemed very exciting at the time but not very good reception. Had to keep very deftly moving the dial to tune in.
  15. I watched that too, what a dramatic family eh? Thanks for the clip of the music, Pav effortless as always, just has to open his mouth and something rather beautiful is the result. Huge fan.
  16. I can remember John Robertson being down the boat clubs back in the day.
  17. Jill, it’s well out of the way, to be fair I don’t normally buy one cos they always die on me. Thank you lady.
  18. I experienced a really nice gesture which actually made me speechless in our local Tesco last week. The lady in front of me in the queue who had paid for her shopping asked if she could lean over to the shelf by the belt for a poinsettia plant and I said “of course” thinking that she had just spotted it for herself. She went on to pay for it separately and then put the plant in my trolley and wished me a happy Christmas. I still can’t believe it, maybe I looked particularly miserable at the time and she thought I wanted cheering up! Things like that are what Christmas is all about.
  19. I think you can only use your bus pass on the Nottingham trams if the bus pass was issued in Notts. Mine isn’t.
  20. Barrie, I could do with a big bro, both mine have passed away so there’s a big hole there.
  21. Oz, glad to hear you’re on the mend now, bet it was scary at the time. Need you back, fit and well for the cricket season comments.
  22. Goodness, I would have been 9 in 1964 and also probably in Ingoldmells on Wall Lane, staying in a holiday bungalow with my family. Small world eh.
  23. Unfortunately no Christmas gifts guys. Am turning into Scrooge,it’s cheaper! We’re up in the wet and windy Lake District at the moment. Going just over the border to my Scottish homeland on Monday to meet up with my old school friend which will be nice.
  24. We actually went into Nottm today, it was an absolute breeze. Parked in the Vic Centre, up in the lift to John Lewis, filled up our favourite selection of Quality Street in our own tins from last year, no longer weighed, just ram as many in the tin as you can - annoyingly had no triangles or orange crisp left but substituted. Bought a beautiful white spiky twig Christmas Dec and glass baubles which is now at the top of our stairs. Went back down to the carpark and came back home. No getting wet through and spent my £25 JL voucher. Jobs a good un.
  25. Aha the annual pork pie discussion. We always have pork pie and toast for Christmas Day breakfast. My dad used to stop off from work at Burtons Arcade every Christmas Eve to collect the turkey and pork pie.
