1971/72? Mini pop concert on the Trent Embankment Band Stand
zab replied to gadge's topic in 70's Nottingham
I know Gaffa played as did Down To Earth which featured some friends of mine. I'm also pretty certain that most of the bands that featured on the album appeared. -
Used to listen to RNI a lot - in fact more than Caroline, got a feeling the reception was better. The fourth picture looks like Andy Archer but I'm not sure.

Put me down as a possible, it all depends on family / work commitments.

There isn't an aviary at Woodthorpe but there are some carp in the Tropical House.

How about Sam Cooke and 'You Send Me'
-
I remember reading about him but never saw him play - sounds like he was a real character.
-
I think you mean St James Street / Maid Marian Way; anyway, I used to go in that one sometimes after work - pretty ordinary fare at a reasonable price if I remember correctly.

My local in those days was the Grosvenor and we enjoyed eating there (as well as drinking), fortunately, it's survived without becoming a part of one of those chains.

There's some more pictures here - http://www.nottingham21.co.uk/misc_rockcem_1.htm

You're free to wander around - I'm assuming it's the usual opening times of 9:00am - 5:00pm

I think you're both talking about the same place, it's now been knocked down and replaced by a shop/office. It was more or less next door to what is now Selectadisc.
-
It's actually a fascinating place to stroll around in - apart from the caves and rock catacombs, there's an area called St Ann's Valley which is best described as an amphitheatre. Circular and very much lower than the rest of the cemetery - a lot of the paupers are buried here. I think the cemetery, which is known as Church Cemetary, is now full.

Perhaps it's time for a new host?

That's a smart looking machine.

1971/72? Mini pop concert on the Trent Embankment Band Stand

Their first Nottingham gig was at the Boat (I know because I was there) plus they only started in '77 so it's not them. -
 Not sure what the question was! Ronson sadly passed away in '93 - more on him here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mick_Ronson

Interesting thread, totally agree about 'You Really Got Me'. Claremont Bilateral/secondary modern
zab replied to Craig Strongman's topic in Claremont Bilateral/Secondary Modern
Ex Claremont also - did my five year stint there between 66 - 71. Don't remember Craig there but we must have bumped into each other at some stage. I'm assuming Jack Aram was Head when you were there. -
Must admit I prefer the Rescue Rooms these days - not a frequent visitor but I've seen Steve Winwood, The Zombies and Carbon Silicon (Mick Jones from the Clash) there. Each of those shows was excellent.

One of the good Canon retailers on E-bay is, http://stores.ebay.co.uk/FLASH-CAMERA

There's still an Oxfam in Bridlesmith Gate, - in fact it's still opposite the old Birdcage. Perhaps it still has the odd pair of loons. I do remember Carnaby Styles plus there was another shop I remember round the corner from Birdcage near St Peters called Image.

That doesn't sound good...... If you can get on-line try, and get to an on-line scanner such as http://housecall.trendmicro.com/uk/ If not and you still have e-mail I can send you a small program call Stinger that basically gets rid of the most common viruses.

'favourite Motown tracks of the day'
zab replied to radfordred's topic in Keep the Faith - Soul and Motown
In those days I wasn't particularly a keen fan of the Tamla sound - as you know rock music was preference and sometimes the more bizarre the better! I think I've mellowed.....help! As I type this I'm listening to a classic Ramsey Lewis album called Sun Goddess. Like any good music these days from jazz to soul to blues to rock to psychedelia, the only thing I don't like these days are the manufactured sounds the music industry is so keen to promote - thinking particularly of the 'boy' and 'girl' bands and the whole pop idol culture. I better get off my soapbox....... -
