  1. The tram support post, I mentioned earlier in Awsworth is actually on park hill outside number 64, park hill is a continuation of station rd, I presume the tram went through Awsworth, into Ilkeston or Cotmanhay and then through Heanor to Ripley.
  2. Ashley, I think there is the remains of an old support post on Station road at Awsworth, it is similar or the same as the 1 near the hayloft.
  3. The bridge on Coronation avenue was still there in about 1979, as i went to what was then Roland Green, the railway bridge over the trent near the toll bridge was still there then as well, so does anyone know when they were demolished. If the bridges were still there they would probably have been chosen for the new tram route.
  4. Never heard of that bus company before, any more info. Wifes dad was a driver for NCT I think he worked from Piccadily depot for a while,
  5. With the demolition of the Odeon, and the new devolpment, this is going to need deep excavation, I wonder if they might come across any signs of the old town wall that was in or around that area.
  6. Thanks Cliff, what street would that have been?
  7. In the image posted by Cliff Ton, what was the building in the top left hand corner?
  8. The white swan was converted into flats a couple of years ago. The only pub still open around there is the fox and crown, which is just around the corner on Church street.
  9. I have a copy of the o.s map from 1899, what is it that you want to see? For anything about Lenton, I tend to find it on the Lenton times wesite.
  10. It looks like the council are getting ready to demolish this. http://www.thisisnot...tail/story.html With the demolition of Radford baths, the high rise flats and the 2 mills, there is going to be a lot of land available for development.
  11. It looks like the old petrol station next to the white hart is being demolished as well, can't see it being due to the tram works as the tram will not be passing it.
  12. There was also a stork club on Alfreton road, near Bobbers Mill.
  13. They are building a Macdonalds and a KFC on the site of the Man of trent, according to NEP today, seems a strange choice of location, as the traffic is terrible around there and it is a nightmare trying to join the A453 at the best of times.
  14. Looking at the planning application, it is going to be shops, office space and student flats, it looks like it is going to a tall building as it mentions, 14 floors. http://plan4.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/WAM/pas/showCaseFile.do?councilName=Nottingham+City+Council&appNumber=12%2F02701%2FPNMA
  15. Compo, the cafe at Clifton bridge is still open, it is used for hgv parking as well.
  16. How do they get permission to store 7000 tonnes of waste material, that is flammable, it's the amount of about 350 bulk tippers each carrying 20 tonnes.
  17. They went up trowell road in a large group, it was impossible to make an individual out, so heres a photo that has a bit of local interest.
  18. The first day was today and according to the BBC report was very well attended, lets hope that we all show the same support tomorrow, It's a pity as most people will be at work due to it being a weekday. I live close to Trowell road so I will see if I can get a few photos. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-19521148
  19. There is still a large co-op at Ilkeston.
  20. It has now been flattened, so it looks like a totally new build, it could possibly be a pizza place as nnsc mentioned earlier. http://plan4.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/WAM/pas/showCaseFile.do?councilName=Nottingham+City+Council&appNumber=12%2F01544%2FPADA
  21. Driving along Alfreton road towards the city the other day I noticed that the pub that was just below Forest road on the same side as the old KFC has closed, it has had a few names but I think it was the windmill years ago. There is now only 2 pubs on Alfreton road, tho organ grinder and the running horse. The falcon at Canning circus is up for sale, and the old Ben Bowers restaurant is now a late bar. It seems strange that of the 3 main roads into Nottingham, Mansfield road, Ilkeston road and Alfreton road, only Mansfield road has managed to keep an abundance of pubs
  22. Cliff Ton The book that I had read was by the same author but was more to do with Wollaton, so I will get a copy of the other book.
  23. Cliff ton I am not sure if its the same book but I have read something similar, I know my father in laws brother was interviewed for the book as he was a gardener at Wollaton Hall for a long time, they used to live in the small gate house on Derby road near to the Priory roundabout. I will pop into the in laws later as I know that they have a copy.
  24. Jackson, my wifes dad lived at Cherry Orchard probably in the 30s they were a large family, the surname being Baker. I have never seen any photos of that area.
