  1. I found this picture, that shows the old and new course of the Leen. (Here) http://www.emgs.org..../castlerock.htm It also shows that there is a small island where the Boots site on London road was, I always wondered why it was called the island site.
  2. As Rob237 said the boundary is shown on a 1899 map as following london road, with the east side being in the trent ward, and the west side being in the bridge ward. On the same map it shows the river Leen as flowing into the Trent , just north of the City ground on the other bank, it must have been a major job to alter the course, to where it enters the Trent now, which is south of the old toll bridge, near enougth opposite Wilford church
  3. Ashley, when I click on the original link in my post, it opens fine. When opening the link in your post it is missing, try useing the link in my post.
  4. the avatars, d'ont seem to be displaying very clearly.
  5. I found this web site today, there are some nice old railway photos, as well as various photos of everything else, well worth a look. http://www.scienceandsociety.co.uk/results.asp?image=10314803&itemw=4&itemf=0015&itemstep=1&itemx=4
  6. Suzy your are correct, Roebuck is 9-11 St James Street Bla Bla and Imperial is 13-15 St James Street Newshouse is 23 St James Street The Imperial also had another name, as mentioned in a previous topic, I was unaware of this one. http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1907
  7. I think Suzy is right, the Imperial is now Bla Bla Bar. The wetherspoons is the old Newshouse.
  8. The Imperial is now called the Roebuck, it is a Wetherspoons pub. Wetherspoons normally call the pub after something or someone that is assosciated to the pub, so I wonder why it is called the Roebuck.
  9. In Beeston the first hour is free, but you have to get a ticket from the machine and display it, a lot get caught out this way,the people that patrol the car parks are very keen, I think they must be on some kind of bonus scheme. The same people enforce the on street parking, I have seen them ticket delivery vans and lorries.
  10. There is no pub of that name in Chilwell, there is a Green dragon pub at Hucknall,Chilwell in the 1800s would have been little more than a village,on a map of 1895, there is an inn marked, I think it is probably the original Cadland. Bendigo lived in Beeston up until his death.
  11. Theres an interesting series of maps being auctioned today, they show the potential bombing targets in Nottingham, during the second world war. http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/sale-Nazi-guide-bombing-Nottingham/story-13156171-detail/story.html
  12. Ashley, the pub further along Manvers street would have been the Earl Manvers, which was on Colwick road, it was demolished about 2 years ago.
  13. Mick, the pub that was on Manvers Street was the Robert Peel, it was a Shiptones pub I think. I can't remember the Marketside having another name.
  14. The only pub left out of those that you named is the plough. Is now a micro brewery, and doing rather well. Old Rose - demolished, as part of a new build of student accomodation Marquis - currently boarded up. Jolly higglers - was closed for years, now a Tesco express White Horse - now a take away / cafe The area around these pubs has been taken over by students, with numerous new builds of student flats, all of chettles yard has gone and been built on, as well as Skills depot, parts of the old Raleigh site on Faraday rd, Marathon Knitwear on Radford boulevard is also student flats. Try
  15. Ashley, the area at the bottom of Chewton street is known as New Eastwood, the shop on main street used to be New Eastwood post office, but I think it is just a small grocery shop now. It is marked as New Eastwood on the o.s. maps. Eastwood seems to be an area of small villages or towns, that have gradually joined together due to expansion, with no real definition of where 1 starts and the other finishes.
  16. I have done a quick copy using my phone. http://s570.photobucket.com/albums/ss147/taxiray/?action=view&current=16072011228.jpg
  17. On a copy of an o.s. map from 1899, Pump street is where littiebro says, I would place it roughly where the Post office sorting office was on Lower Parliament Street. It looks like Platt street became part of Lower Parliament Street as it seems to follow a similar route.
  18. The hemlockstone pub is now called, the hemlockstone and dragon. This is because they now sell thai food in the restaurant. I wonder how long it will last like this before they go back to the original name. There is quite a few pubs that have changed the name, only to go back to the original name.
  19. There is another picture on that site showing, Bramcote lane, May avenue and Russel drive, I think from the 50s, as half the houses on May avenue are not built yet, and there is hardly any houses on Russel drive.
  20. The hemlockstone is just off of coventry lane in Bramcote, it will be visible on google earth. Plenty of pictures and articles on the net. http://www.bing.com/maps/#Y3A9NTMuMzY2NzUyMTkzODU1Nzk1fi0xLjI2MzI3NDU0Mjc1MzI3MjEmbHZsPTkuOTQwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAxJnN0eT1jJnJ0cD1wb3MuNTIuOTUwNjMyMTI1MTM5MjRfLTEuMjMxMDUyODAxMDEyOTkyOF9ORzglMjAyR0UlMkMlMjBOb3R0aW5naGFtJTJDJTIwTm90dGluZ2hhbSUyMENpdHlfX19lX35wb3MuNTMuNDg2ODk0MjIwMTEzNzU0Xy0xLjI3MjcwNTQ5NTM1NzUxMzRfRE4xMiUyMDRKWCUyQyUyMERvbmNhc3RlciUyQyUyMERvbmNhc3Rlcl9fX2VfJm1vZGU9RCZydG9wPTB+MH4wfg==
  21. A nimrod is due to fly into east midlands airport on 12th July, the newest addition to the aeropark. Leaving waddington at 10.00am due at EMA 10.15- 10.30 a nice chance to get some photos, of what could be the last flight
  22. It was known as a diferrent name for a while, it has been discussed before. http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4071
  23. That would have been the moor farm inn, it closed about 5 years ago. It has been demolished, and I think some form of church is going to be built there.
  24. Mick is this the place you were asking about, its in the book that i mentioned earlier. The 4th photo along. http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/Gone-forgotten-city-views-ugliest-street/story-12898596-detail/story.html
  25. Theres a book published yesterday, about Maid Marian Way, with some old photos of what was there before. Available for sale at libraries. Could be worth a look. http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/Ugliest-street-new-book/story-12890875-detail/story.html
