  2. Yes, well done to everyone who was involved with the rescue....Thats reminded me that Nottingham has lost all of her mines !!! Also, I think its ironic that Maggie Thatcher spent her 85th birthday watching Miners rejoicing on TV. Good to be back, I think its time the server was sacked!! Owdtite..... !inthebin!
  3. The smog when the trolley buses stopped running and I had to walk from the city to Bulwell coughing my guts up!!! And of course Shippo's ale!!! As regards the peas, cockles etc, I never had them in Vicky center but had many in the old Central Market..now that was a place that is missed!! Owdtite.
  4. I hope cotton wool is recycleable, there sure is going to be a lot when they finally unwrap us of it!!! At least the Tories are good for something and common sense prevails at last....And I see on the same day its announced that Teachers are once more being able to "touch" kids at school, good for them, now lets have the cane and strap back as well as chucking the blackboard rubber at unruly pupils!!! Owdtite.
  5. I would have loved to have travelled with one of the many explorers, Magellan, Columbus etc....I have always fancied sailing on one of the old ships but would have had to share the Captains quarters, I coudnt cope with the beds down below.....Failing that, I have always wanted to sleep on a submarine, I think those small beds look really cosy!! Owdtite.
  6. My memories not what it was but if its any help the No 35 bus to Bulwell cemetery was always a single decker because of a low bridge on Hempshill Lane...(I think)!!...lol Owdtite.

  10. Hi Grendad, No I didnt work on the Trolley buses but I used them quite a lot in my younger days. Your mentioning Highbury School brought back memories, I think everyone dreaded going there cos they were know as the Highbury Bulldogs and all 11 year olds used to hear the stories of what they did to Newbies. I was lucky that I (half) passed my 11 plus and ended up at Ellis School!! Which junior school did you go to? I would assume it was either Bonnington or Rufford! We used to play them at football and cricket when I went to Springfield Junoirs. Owdtite.
  11. Its been mentioned in this thread that people maybe put off joining the Forums......The person I feel sorry for in all this is Grendad, the Newbie who started the thread about his experiences in Bulwell. The thread then degenerates and drifts into dyslexia and meet ups and with a twinge of nastiness about it!...This, more than anything will put people off from joining and more importantly, staying with the Forum. C'mon Guys, lets keep the threads on topic please and lets cut out any nastiness. Owdtite............. !rulez!
  12. Streets lights you say?....Wot are they then??? Dont hav'em up here!!!! Owdtite.
  13. Hi Grendad and welcome to the Forum. I was born and dragged up in Bulwell, Sandhurst Rd at the side of the Lido!! I had friends in and around the Downing St, Duchess St and Mulberry St...did you live near there?...Did a lot of courting round the back of the straw factory, do you remember that? I left some 42 years ago and last went back in 2001 and its just not the same, seems to be a lot of "Chavs" about...(sorry to anyone who lives there now who isnt a chav). Talk about crime, we had our prefab broke into in 1959, the cops came round, took fingerprints, arrested a geezer from Rock St on

  15. I had a few stretches of working at Ratcliffe in the 70's, I contracted on most of the Trent Valley stations at some time or other, and also a lot further afield. I worked for a number of firms at the time but the one that looked after me the best was called William Press and Son, I also did work for International Combustion and Babcox and Wilcox. Our work was mainly in the summer shutdown periods but you could make enough money to have the rest of the year off. Dangerous work, no H&S in those days, dreadful on the lungs and by the time I was 30 I gave it all up. One thing that always st

  18. I use a site where they will only allow you to join if you use your E-mail addy that you are given when you sign up to your ISP (ie...@btinternet.com)....I coudnt join it 6 months ago cos I was having to use my Landlords Broadband, he had a 18 month contract on it so I had to use an Hotmail addy. I now have a BT internet account in my own name and so could join. They will not accept anybody using Hotmail, Google and other made up ady's. Applicants are vetted before allowed to join.Could something like this help on this site at all? Owdtite
  19. I remember dancing in the ailses at the Adelphi in Bulwell when Rock around the Clock was shown with Bill Haley and the Comets.... Oh happy days, the last time I was in there was with a married woman who's husband was away at sea, I didnt know at the time or I would never have gone with her!! Owdtite.
  20. I dont know about friendless but he certainly needs psychiatric help !! And he hasnt realised yet that it takes a lot less effort for Mick to press the delete button than it takes him to post such poison!!! Some people you just have to feel sorry for !!...Please get some help whoever you are !! Owdtite.
  21. At a wild guess I would say Basford, somewhere around Southwark Street??? Ok, I did say it was a wild guess!!!!
  22. Was it the Thurland or the Clinton where I used to go on a Sunday to see the Girls perform, the one opposite the fire station..had some good Sunday lunches in there. I did organise a private do at the ROAB in W.Bridgford and it was a whole new ball game, wow, some of the things that happened there you woudnt believe!!!!!!!!! Owdtite.
  23. You lucky Lad Pooh, the only time I got close to her was on my daily visit to get the punishment book off her after I had been leathered!! Didnt she marry Richard Sheldon's Dad? He was in my class as well..(Richard, not his Dad..LOL).. I remember she used to cycle to school and she had the most perfect legs...(OK, i'm going to stop now, getting a bit carried away!).. I can vaguely remember finding some fags down a drainpipe, was my lucky day cos I could by some lunch (at Baxters chippy) instead of buying my daily supply of nicotine!! Anybody remember our school secretary...Mrs Smith later Mrs Sheldon? She lived in the house next door to the Jet station on Nuthall Rd!!....Every young schoolboys fantasy she was!! Owdtite..aka = Owdevil!!!
  25. I just want to thank Pooh Bear for starting this thread....It has brought back some really good memories for me of my time at The Ellis....Its a shame that the allotments have gone, that was a briliant place for us and we used to take a short cut through there to get the No7 bus home to Bulwell...It was going through here that I had my first ever Park Drive and when I got on the bus I was sick and the conductor made me get off at Bells Lane....Of course I went on to smoke everyday after that and my lungs must be like charcoal now. Thanks yet again for some wonderful memories, I just love this
