  1. I knew the Tizzard family (there were loads of them, a great family) who ran the Swinger (Forest Hotel) on Bulwell Hall Estate, then they took on the Jubilee pub up Carlton way & visited them a few times, then lost touch with them. I remember the murder & thinking if he was one of them. Years later was talking about the murder at work & a woman said her daughter dated a Tizzard & is almost certain they're related. She thinks he was a milkman...
  2. There has been over 1,600 Fast Radio Bursts (FRB's) in 47 days from the same part of space. No one knows what is causing these FRB's, of course aliens have come up, but they speculate that it's more likely to be a magetar behaving in a strange way never seen before. I so love these scientific mysteries, & long may they continue...
  3. Well I'm now half way through my prostate cancer radiotherapy treatment (10 RT sessions out of 20) & all seems to be going well, however I'm getting fairly tired & going to bed at 9-30'ish most nights, I was told about the tiredness side effect so not a surprise to me. The staff at the radiotherapy centre at the City Hospital are brilliant, they're so friendly, & of course have a good yabber with other patients. I struggled to drink 3 glasses of water 15 mins before I went in as it was so cold out of their water machine, so now I take a litre bottle of tap water that's been left ou
  4. The boffins are speculating that there could be a mini black hole in an orbit round the sun further out than Pluto, It would be about 5 to 15 times the mass of the sun & it's event horizon would be about the size of a grapefruit. They know there is a gravitational discrepancy in the orbit of Pluto but they can't see whats causing it. Of course a black hole would be - er - black so they wouldn't be able to see it would they? How they are going to prove this black hole exists I haven't got a clue, but I love these scientific speculations...
  5. Thanks Beekay, Brew, Catfan, DJ 360, Carni, MargieH & LizzieM..... LizzieM, I remembered to drink 3 glasses of water today, 2'nd session went OK. Got yabbering to some very friendly people, we're all in the same boat so to speak. Nurse said "you're 10% of the way through your treatment now" I never thought of it like that, it'll be 15% tomorrow...
  6. Been for my 1'st radiotherapy session for my prostate cancer at City hospital radiotherapy centre today, I hadn't drunk enough water at 1'st go so was sent out to drink another 2 glasses, then went in & was out in 10 mins. Got to have 20 sessions over next few weeks...
  7. A load of Trent Bridge kids & myself ran side to side on speno bridge & got it swinging good & proper. A teacher went berserk at us, & as I started it I got the cane. Good fun though getting it swinging...
  8. Thanks Lizzie, Benjamin, Mary Brew, Carney, Beekay & Jill. Don't know why I'm having 20 sessions of RT while others have had 37, they told be I have a very small prostate so whether that's owt to do it I don't know. I'll ask if I don't forget. I'm still doing DJ'ing & humping audio equipment about at my Wife's line dance classes & socials, did from 7 PM till 11-30 at a social on Saturday night & I was so tired I slept till 11-45 AM yesterday, can't believe I used to work 12 hour shifts no problem. Doing 2 hours tonight so should be OK...
  9. Thanks Margie, got a few butterflys going round in my tum, but got to be done..
  10. Had my third jab on Friday, was a bit before the 6 months gap as I start 20 sessions of radiotherapy on 3'rd November & the oncologist didn't want me to have the jab half way through my treatment. He said "go & get it over with." My arms hurting a bit & got a bit of a headache, but otherwise OK...
  11. In May I took a cheap fixed rate elecric/gas deal with Green. Now they've gone bust & I will be transferred to one of the big six I presume, bet I won't be on a cheap fixed rate though. Ahh well I've had 4 months of cheap electric & gas...
  12. Been to my doctors for my 2'nd decapetyl (triptorelin 11.25 Mgs) 3 monthly depot injection for my prostate cancer, bums a bit numb/achy now, feel like a pin cushion. Also did my flu jab at same time. Seeing oncologist on 29'th this month to see about radiotherapy...
  13. Only one I remember is Miss/Mrs Cheesman, she slapped the back of my legs & it really hurt, Can't remember what I did wrong though...
  14. Had a test drive in a double clutch auto Hyundai i10 the other day = very strange experience, it also had stop/start. You'd stop at the lights, when they turned green I pressed the gas & nothing seemed to happen, so pressed a bit more, then the engine fired up & it zoomed forwards, when accelerating I could feel it change gear, I can hardly tell when my present fluid clutched Hyundai i10 changes gear. Wife seemed to like it so there's a good chance we'll be having one soon, it'll take me some time to get used to it though, & I'm an ex driving instructor...
  15. Read somewhere that the compounds were considered the way to go as they used the steam twice so two bites of the cherry - in theory. It also mentioned the starting problems, but I've also read some ordinary puffers, especially the two cylinder jobs also had trouble starting, my cousin who's a driver at Midland Railway at Butterley has a good chunter when the won't start. I presume the three & four cylinder jobs were easier to start as less chance of stopping on a dead spot...
  16. In New Scientist that they've discovered that black holes exert a very tiny pressure. They've discovered this by incorporating quantum field theory with general relativity & viola = up pops pressure... Probably a bit more complicated than my description: I make it sound like they chucked quantum field theory & general relativity into a food mixer & turned it on, I'm guessing that is not what they did. They actually used a supercomputer & scientific noggin to work it out...
  17. My wife Sue worked for a well known bookies & was the only one there who didn't smoke: everyone would go in the back for a fag break, even the gaffer. When Sue went went in the back for a coffee break in lieu of a fag break the gaffer said she wasn't entitled as she didn't smoke. There was a row & gaffer had to back down, but she wasn't happy about it...
  18. Big debate in boffin land at moment on what to do when (or if) they find evidence of alien life. Some say we should try & contact them, but others are saying don't under any circumstances advertise our existence to them. I agree with the 'don't tell em we're here' brigade. First contact with the Spanish didn't go well for for the Inca's. There are many examples of Europeans making contact with less advanced civilizations & then using/robbing them for their own ends, lesson's to be learn't there IMO...
  19. I used to teach my pupils to do hand signals, (1980's/90's) they'd say why? & I'd say "in case the flashers go 'phut' & you have to drive to the garage to get them fixed. Also they were in the highway code so could get a question on them on the test." (This was before the theory test came in) Maybe they could buy a vintage car not fitted with flashers, then it'd be hand signals... My ex girlfriend would forget to put the choke back in all the time & wonder why it used a lot of petrol. She'd also only put ESSO petrol in, she swore blind SHELL, TEXACO, JET etc were no goo
  20. Been reading about 'no rinse washing liquid' = you don't need to rinse after washing the clothes. This'd be perfect for twin tubs as you'd just need to transfer the washing over to the spin dryer & wouldn't have to keep squirting water into it to rinse & Bob's your uncle it's done... If it's any good or not I don't know as I've never tried it. Not sure I'd be happy not rinsing the laundry though...
  21. Mam had a Hotpoint twin tub job. When I came home on leave I bung all my uniform & whatnot in it then transfer over to the spinner for a rinse & spin, stuff came out nice & clean. Wife's auntie in Perth Australia is still using one...
  22. Ours is a through lounge/diner 21 feet by 11 feet 6 inches with a table at one end near patio doors, & reclining sofa & a reclining chair, telly, wood effect electric fire (spinner flame effect gubbins no longer spins though) & a stereo system Some neighbours have put a wall up half way through their lounge to make 2 rooms but they're a bit small IMO...
  23. Gaffer tape a toothbrush to your mobile phone then ring it = free electric toothbrush... I accept your thanks in advance...
  24. Agree 100% Catfan, I hated every minute there...
