  1. The NEP have a decent piece on him http://www.thisisnot...tail/story.html
  2. Another end of another era. I spent hours (and pounds) in Selectadisc over the years. I don't think I ever met or knew Brian Selby, but I will always remember his name because back in the days before electronic payments, there was always a hand-written sign in the shops which said "Cheques to be made payable to Brian Selby"
  3. This one http://www.pictureth...014471&prevUrl= And the same again http://www.flickr.com/photos/50284741@N02/4906684653/in/photostream/
  4. I'd agree with Sound of Music/Mary Poppins as the openers when the Odeon was twinned. Julie Andrews mania. The film Battle of Britain wasn't released until 1969
  5. Here's another to buy if you've got any spare money lying around http://www.rightmove...y-39412343.html
  6. Poohbear's Streetview image in #41 has a few memories for me. It's Garden Street, Radford, and moving a bit further along, as in this view....... ...the inset area where the cars are parked used to contain a row of terraced houses. I had two elderly aunts lived in one, and I just about remember visiting the place, and being aware of how their house seemed to be surrounded by factories. Even by Victorian standards, the industrial parts were close to the domestic parts
  7. A few days ago I went past the site, and here's a few photos which update those of taxiray a few months ago Radford Baths as they are now A bit further down the road Top end of Highurst Street with the ugly office block and Forest Mill Forest Mill, a bit further down Highurst Street Further down, and looking inside the old Forest Mill Round the other side looking in to Forest Mill. from Thackery Street/Boden Street Looking like avant-garde art, one of the small tower blocks off Highurst Street about to be demolished
  8. More than a few pictures of the place at various stages of its life http://www.derelictp...ottingham&sa=Go
  9. Went through the area a few days ago, and some of the disasters are not quite as disastrous as they were. A few months ago one partly-completed building (on the left) has now turned into this (on the right) And from another angle up the road, I have to admit it looks pretty good
  10. Note the registration........here's the same bus when it was working http://farm9.staticf...3afbac626_z.jpg
  11. There have been a couple of references in Nottstalgia to Eric Coates, the man who wrote the theme music for the Dambusters; this one..... Coates (who died in 1957) was born in Hucknall, and the town is to be the scene of the premiere of three newly-discovered songs which were written by Coates. http://www.bbc.co.uk...mshire-19650224 I wonder when was the last time Hucknall made the national news for artistic reasons?
  12. I wonder if Rob will be able to see that http://nottstalgia.c...showtopic=10037
  13. I was aware of Caroline's in the late 80s and it seemed empty and derelict then. When did it close down as a club? http://www.pictureth...001446&prevUrl=
  14. If you were outside the old Martin Emprex factory, you were on Granby Street!!. that's what that stretch was called before it was widened and expanded to become Maid Marian Way. Take a look at this thread http://nottstalgia.c...=8474&hl=granby for a few photos. And if you put "Granby" in the Search box, you'll find quite a few more mentions
  15. Yeah, Jimmy Clitheroe was a class act wasn't he?
  16. Trent Bridge cricket ground in 1941. Courtesy of the Luftwaffe, not an archaeological dig.
  17. At the Lenton end of Castle Boulevard, the old MFI warehouse has finally been demolished and been replaced by a new building for the Cornerstone Church. Unlike the Contemporary thing at Weekday Cross or the Car Park at the railway station, the "church" seems to have been designed by someone with a bit of sense and taste. If you look at the "Before" and "After" it's no contest
  18. Hmmmm I hadn't noticed it could be interpreted in that way! I used to be famous for my small parts.
  19. Welcome Tomiggy7891, we don't seem to have a specific forum for Basford so I reckon you'll be ok here. On your request for old photos, are you aware of this site http://www.pictureth...rg.uk/index.php which gets referred to a lot on Nottstalgia. If you put Basford in their Search boxes, you'll get hundreds of results which will keep you amused for hours
  20. Here's a view of Firsby today. You can see the former railway line, and a sharp curve south of the station - which I guess was on Station Road. I'd bet you could see the front of the train from the rear (or vice-versa) at that point https://maps.google....ed Kingdom&z=15
  21. Am I missing something about it? It seems to consist of about a dozen thumbnail pictures and a few paragraphs of text. Clicking on the "links" doesn't seem to go anywhere.
