  1. Never realised that West Bridgford had been a world leader in something for a few months. I will now definitely watch the programme to check out the changed scenery. If they've got old film of customers, I might see a much younger version of myself with my parents.
  2. You should know by now, it will always be your fault. No matter who did what, it's your fault.
  3. It isn't very often you see a bridge resting in a car park. To take the tram extension out to Beeston, a new bridge will be used to carry the track over the ring-road near QMC. The bridge itself has been pre-assembled and is now sitting in what used to be a staff car park at QMC. Once the approach routes have been completed the bridge will be dropped into place. But for now, it's slightly surreal.
  4. I've learned something today. Never heard of the name Chedworth Estate before, but on a late 1950s map..........
  5. Not the sharpest map I've ever done, but I think it partly answers the question.
  6. True, I vaguely remember it. In the early version buses parked clockwise inside the horse-shoe, and the later, longer-lasting version where they went anti-clockwise outside the horseshoe. That's it. I know it existed for a couple of years around 69-70 but I don't remember exactly when it was there. The new (current) bus station opened some time before the shopping centre. Not sure of dates but I remember to get to the bus station you had to go along the tunnel under Collin Street because the route through the shopping centre hadn't yet been opened. As for photos from across Canal Stree
  7. In the horse-shoe place they came out of the station on New Bridge Street (along to the left), but in the parallel version they came out where they went in - almost. BTW....simply doing a Google Image Search of Broad Marsh Bus Station brings up all kinds of photos from various times in the past.
  8. There's a map from the 1940s in this thread from a while ago. http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7151&hl=bus+routes
  9. There are a number of photos of it on Picture the Past; there are also quite a lot of photos on various bus threads here on Nottstalgia. Also quite a few photos of it on this flickr site which I've linked to many times http://www.flickr.com/photos/8050359@N07/sets/72157603923450406/ There were two distinct versions of the old Broad Marsh bus station. The horse shoe-shaped layout, and the later parallel-platform layout which existed for a few later years. Both are shown in the various sites mentioned. Not brilliant because the resolution isn't very sharp, but you get the idea......... This
  10. Spooky coincidence..........he died at almost the same time as the first episode of a new series of 'Through the keyhole' - which he started.
  11. Who owned the shops? Someone called Jeff? A businessman who had a few fingers in various pies in the late 60s?
  12. Hint taken. http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/frontend.php?action=printdetails&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;NTGM005525&prevUrl= Surprisingly, the building has survived and hasn't changed much. http://goo.gl/maps/e5s2e

  14. ajkocan and BOBLOCO are both members of that well-known club......... they registered, made one post, and have never been back again since.
  15. Is this a hornet? A photo I took earlier in the year; this thing was in the garden for several days and spent most of its time hovering in one place, unlike wasps and bees which are always on the move.
  16. Before this starts drifting in a big way, there are lots of Goose Fair threads to spend your time going through. http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10470&hl=goose http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4573&hl=goose http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=847&hl=goose
  17. The next bank holiday is christmas day.
  18. No Carni, I have the actual addresses with the house number, from the census. I know Basford extended a long way out in registration terms; in fact in those days even Clifton Village was Basford!
  19. Thanks for them. I've looked at all the links and there isn't really anything that coincides with my side of things. It looks like there was an entire parallel universe of Widdowsons in Basford who aren't the ones you've come up with!
  20. Looking at that link, I have a Widdowson living on Pepper Street, Basford, in 1841, although not Henry. I know it was quite common in those days to find several related families all living along the same road.
  21. If you look at this link, you'll see part of the building is still called Radford Mill. Spin the direction thingy round and you can see Norton Street (down) and Garden Street (up). http://goo.gl/maps/pwJDA
  22. Yes it is. The building fronted onto Norton Street on one side and Garden Street on the other side. It was effectively an island. There are a number of photos and other bits in this thread http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10134
  23. I'm sure I've read somewhere that - difficult to believe - Rolls Royce tested aero engines there during the war. If you want to have a look around http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/industrial-sites/59155-radford-mills-viyella-woks-nottingham-march-2011-a.html
  24. It all proves what I said about Widdowson being very common around Notts and Derbys....but you can count all the others on one hand. I'm fairly certain none of those are connected to my Widdowsons, who started around Basford and ended up in Lenton/Radford. Although I had to double check on this one....... ...because in my Widdowsons, there's always a Samuel in the family. Unfortunately, this isn't one of them.
  25. I have a couple of documents which list the various 'Yards' and 'Places' in Nottingham, and Woodshende doesn't appear in either of them. Maybe it's a misprint by Pic the Past. Unless anyone with knowledge of the company can remember where it is/was.
