  1. I'm not sure how much of the area you describe still remains, but here's a map of it in the 1950s (maybe your times), and you can probably pick out some of the specific buildings you are referring to.
  2. Perhaps.......you don't have to buy new. I was in the fortunate position of being able to buy a low-mileage Nikon D40 with 18-55mm lens from a friend of mine for £150. This dragon fly was about 20cm from the end of the lens and didn't move when I pointed it at him..
  3. Remember that it isn't the camera that takes good pictures, it's the person using it. An idiot with a very expensive camera will do nothing compared to a good photographer and a basic camera.
  4. Rock'n'roll excess I think. 1952-85. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Holton
  5. And the next stage. From a distance, the ex-Odeon appears to have grown a large appendage The front looks really small And from Maid Marian Way it looks like War of the Worlds
  6. A Heavy Metal Kid with his building mates (he's extreme left).
  7. I once read an explanation for all the elements on the Fairham badge, but I can't now find it or remember it. The bridge at the top is to commemorate the newly-built (at the time the school opened) Clifton bridge. I don't know what the bird is supposed to be; looks like some demented swan.
  8. Bell's. Good job they had a short name so that it all fits in here.
  9. You can probably identify this then. It's over 25 years old and still in everyday use.
  10. Seems we've discovered a bug The reason I'm not seeing it is because it isn't there on my version of things. On a Mac with Chrome.
  11. You can call me thick and dim.......... but where are these things? I can't see 'em. Where should I be looking?
  12. And just in case anyone still wasn't sure.......the 1850s
  13. Looks like you've found a spelling mistake. There's a Shortwood Farm in that location on old maps going back at least to the mid-19th century.
  14. Then and Now https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=cathy+gale&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=zk4LUr-7FMaN0AWE-4HoBQ&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1296&bih=709
  15. All pubs become very similar under certain circumstances....
  16. I got it... but I'll let StephenFord explain
  17. The tunnel under Thurland Street was built as a cut-and-cover, and this demonstrates bazalways' point perfectly. And this shows another version of it http://www.railwayarchive.org.uk/map/planBookSection.php?planNo=7&row=2&col=2 You can trace the whole GC route under Nottingham by clicking on the appropriate boxes. (see the Plan Grid top right)
  18. chrissy....the photo in post #26 is the same place as the photo at post #11......and the one at #11 is definitely at the bowling alley....so....
  19. Yes, the bowling alley was/still is at the base of the tower block in the background!
  20. Surely that's the place in the photo I originally posted. But by then it wasn't a Berni. Here's the Cricketer's when it still appears to be a Berni.
  21. Not absolutely certain but I think it was a Berni in the last years of its existence.
  22. Or this, which was officially known as Plumtree Square, on the edge of the Lace Market near Parliament Street. Dunno the name of the pub, which is the white building with the burn-out roof.
  23. Or this one which is still at the bottom of Hockley? http://goo.gl/maps/vmGgF
  24. Deleting can only be done by people with Admin or Moderator status. I could demonstrate on this post, but then no-one would see the answer.
  25. I've done quite a bit of family history research myself, and the email contact address here is the one to go for (down at the bottom of the page) cemeteries@nottinghamcity.gov.uk http://www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/article/21822/Cemeteries-crematoriums-and-burial-grounds If you give them the details of name/date of burial/etc they will tell you if that person is at a particular cemetery. Dig around on that website (slightly unfortunate expression!) and also look at the nottinghamshire county council site to gie you a wider view of things.
