  1. My wife and I left the apalling NHS in 1970 to emigrate to the finest system in the world for your average man (the Australian medicare system). Every person has a medicare card(like a bank card) which demonstrates that they are entitled to care, free at point of service. In the appalling NHS millions of non entitled people from all over the world were able to manipulate the system, little wonder it is going broke.I am a poor typist but can tell you the NHS was little more than slave labour for the thousands of exploited nurses and docors from around the world. I do not wish to get into deta
  2. Patients died due to 'appalling care' at Staffordshire hospitals - Healthcare Commission Appalling standards of care have been exposed at Mid-Staffordshire Hospitals trust, where between 400 and 1,200 more patients died than would be expected in just three years, according to a damning report by the Healthcare Commission. Link to this video By Rebecca Smith, Medical Editor 1:52PM GMT 17 Mar 2009 Comment Sir Bruce Keogh, medical director of the NHS, described the failures as a 'gross and terrible breach of trust' of patients. 3. Almost certain long term brain damage. Dementia PugilisticaAlso called "chronic traumatic encephalopathy," this disorder is so common to boxers that it's named after the sport. It's a collection of brain problems that stem from repeated minor to moderate brain trauma over the course of years -- typically more than 10, but sometimes as few as six. Symptoms of dementia pugilistica include memory loss, dementia similar to Alzheimer's disease and motor problems that resemble Parkinson's Have a look at M.Ali (Cassius Clay)
  4. The Cavendish was much more `up-market' than the Empress and newer. Also the smoking and lack of air movement was unbearable,Ayup.
  5. Although the earth`s surface is approx. 71% covered by water, the above picture humbles us as to how precious it is. I would rename earth `Water' to demonstrate it`s wondrous place in our solar system.

But just how much water exists on, in, and above our planet? About 71 percen
  7. Well chaps and chapesses, I shall be in Notts over the summer, and would really welcome help and guidance on reasonably priced (anything up to 10 bob) on eateries in the area. Thanking you in anticipation. Stan.
  8. Grapeshot I believe was not used during the Zulu war. Canister shot (or case-shot) was It was similar to grapeshot in which the canister round's effect is similar to that of a giant shotgun shell. Extract from THE BATTLE OF KHAMBULA 29th March 1879 “On Buller’s command, fired a volley into their ranks and were then ordered to remount and ride back into the laager. However the NNH remained to skirmish the flanks of the iNgobamakhosi. The effect of the volley was spontaneous. The iNgobamakhosi rose as one, bellowed uSuthu and charged forward. As the mounted men retreated, the Artillery had open

  10. We must watch different series. In Inspector Gently (just watched) they were chain smoking, and in many other British and Australian soaps. It`s just that as a non smoker its very noticeable. On visits to Uk also, there seems to be a very high incidence in the young females I encounter.
  11. There are thousands of different taxes in UK. The Institute for Fiscal Studies compiled a report that said Gordon Brown has imposed 157 'stealth tax' rises since 1997. ,so don`t worry . If the worst happens,we can still keep borrowing a BILLION each week to pay the interest on our present debts. I still wish they would stop pushing smoking onto the young via film and TV.
  12. Having just lost an old RAF mate from heart attack (he was a heavy smoker) the thing that really upsets and annoys me is the ever increasing smoking on TV at the moment. Either a few brown envelopes to the TV companies or the government is pushing the fags for more tax. You are going to shout me down you smokers and tell me about the cost to the NHS of smoking, but I will reply its more than made up for the 10 years of pension etc they will not have to pay you. Gone are the days I remember as a student when I read that between a third and a half of the NHS cost came from the tax on to
  13. , The improved Comet 2 and the prototype Comet 3 culminated in the redesigned Comet 4 series which debuted in 1958 and had a productive career of over 30 years. The Comet was adapted for a variety of military roles such as VIP, medical and passenger transport, as well as surveillance. The most extensive modification resulted in a specialised maritime patrol aircraft variant, the Hawker Siddeley Nimrod. Nimrod remained in service with the Royal Air Force (RAF) until June 2011, over 60 years after the Comet's first flight. Not bad value for money.
  14. Weren`t the Locarno and the Empress separate buildings, fernilee567?
  15. The Comet was so far ahead of its rivals the Americans,it was a superb aircraft.. Just a pity it was not realised about window size and shape at that time. It was amazing how you could stand a coin on end in the aircraft and it remained steady. We would still be world leaders in aviation .How many of remember the work of Frank Whittle and other brilliant British engineers? (Sat upon by dull unimaginative plodders in the civil service)

  17. I find that I get that message KatyJ when I try to load pictures.
  18. I went to a talk by Sir Jackie Stewart this year (he is also a sufferer and very rich) and I was astounded by his list ) which included many famous men and women,(even Albert E.) (sorry cannot smell Einstein) so it is more common than you think. (thank goodness for Smellcheck)

  20. Don`t forget to include all the wonderful buildings they pulled down. Isn`t JOCO something to do with the abomination in the once beautiful Trinity Square?
  21. Reminds me about why all Greek men have moustaches in Australia............so they can look like their mums.
  22. I think with M.A.D. loppylugs, the Russians are not stupid unlike our American cousins. The real danger is the Chinese. I always remember the talk given by Mao`s wife Jiang Qing talking about the way he ,without hesitation was prepared to sacrifice a half of the population if it enabled him to gain his goals. Never forget in spite of all the spin it was the Russians who sacrificed most to keep us from Nazi Germany. 22 million Russian dead. I always remember 2 things about the cold war and my time in Germany. One was crossing into East Berlin and seeing the memorial to the Russians killed by
  23. Speaking of Sikhs ,Ashley, I visited the Golden Temple for the 1st time last year. Truly amazing! They serve 100,000 meals a day to the poor and destitute.I was asked to stay for a meal,-I must have looked pretty poor to be invited. I have a picture somewhere of me in my compulsory orange turban. A really funny thing happened whilst we were waiting to be admitted to the t Temple proper this huge Sikh came up and started jabbering to me,I could not understand him---he had the broadest Glasgow accent you ever heard.!
  24. You may joke M.dancer, but I still remember vividly all the Vulcans lined up at Scampton fully loaded with crews in them ready to go at the time of the Cuban Missile crisis. Each crew had a reserve place to land as neither Scampton .Lincoln (or Nottingham) would be there on their return. Scary times.
