  1. Display Typhoon up today,13.15hrs going through his routine followed 30 mins later by the silver Spitfire and Typhoon duo going through their paces,,,BRILLIANT!!!!!! Rog
  2. Quite right Ashley, for some out here a visit from the district nurse is the only excitement they get, then again it just might be too much falling down water. Rog

Heard the first Cuckoo on the 20th at 15.00hrs Tattershall Thorpe, although they have been in the east of Lincolnshire since the beginning of the month, I reckon about two weeks early but the crops are about two weeks behind, don't know if anyone listens to old sayings but the Ash trees are in flower before the Oaks this year so it looks like we might be in for a wet one Rog
  6. All training flights on the Typhoon have been suspended following the finding of some volcanic ash in one of the engines, in saying that the good old Dakota was up again today and that poor thing is covered in coal dust under the floor boards Rog
  7. Just a bit of useless information re: post 24 If I remember right Mr Spurgeon was the first person in Nottingham to have the all new Ford Capri, a 1600L in powder blue, bought it to our garage for us to give it the once over, must have been 1969 Rog

We will have the usual parade through the village with someone dressed as St George complete with his fair maiden,and no doubt the Morris men from Sleaford will be putting on a show outside the pub, followed by the lighting of the beacon on the village green and if last year was owt to go by, A barrel of beer in someones garden where you get your drink and put in the money box what you want, all to the sound of some Elgar being played in the background, I've some pics from last year I will find and post Rog !!

  10. I think I can remember that shop Ashley, did they used to sell/buy sack bags as well? I think it was on the corner of Manvers street and was it eyre (sp) street the one that ran through to Sneinton road, I started work just round the corner on Sneinton road back in 69 Rog
  11. Ayup Ian, All I saw flying on Thursday was the Dakota, about 11.00 and yesterday was a Squirrel helicopter and a Cessna over our place doing aerobatics, I think he was the usual guy from RAF Waddington, as yet no dust has settled and nothing but blue skies Rog

  15. Didn't Marwood the executioner hail from Horncastle Lincolnshire? seem to remember seeing a blue plaque on a building in his honour, I usually go there weekly from work, next time I will take my camera and get a picture of said plaque Rog

Thanks for that catfan, I grew up just across the road and a little way towards Bunbury street at No 47 but knew nothing of the murder until adulthood a left Bathley street a good many years, I suppose it would still be taboo in the 50s. Good book by the way, did you know Terry Lambley lived on Wilford hill and had some original gallows erected in his garden? Rog
  17. I remember reading in a book called "Nottingham Hangings" by Terry ?? that there was a murder on Bathley street the meadows up towards Arkwright street, can't remember the details though, I think post WW2 but before the 50's the house is still standing Rog

Don't know whether this is good new or not but, up at Cap house colliery (national coal mining museum) they are having meetings about using the pumped water from the mine to create energy, they say they pump over a million gallons of "warm" water from the mine either each day or each week to keep the mine open, some boffin from Holland say's it's possible to turn that water to good use by providing heating for the museum giving them a saving of around £100.000 per year, if successful it could be that all the old mines could be pumped that way giving them a new lease of life but in a different
  19. Headstocks at Brinsley as promised. I've had a bit of a Nottstalgia weekend/easter, took Stu's advise and visited Eakring oil wells, took a few pics of Hucknall miner, nipped over again today for some pics of Bestwood and Brinsley headstock, also got some pics of Honeysuckle cottage (Cossall) and a headstone picture of a light infantry soldier who perished at Waterloo also at Cossall, All in All a cracking weekend thanks to Nottstalgia and some of the most interesting topics on the net Rog

I know most of you have probably seen this tribute to the Hucknall colliery miners but I thought it was worth posting all the same, unfortunately our coal heritage has all but gone and all thats left of the collieries as a reminder is usually a section of the old winding wheel stuck in the ground at what was the entrance to the colliery but i find this one a fitting tribute, any thoughts? Nice set there Ian, I especially like the new No6 sqdn Typhoon you seem to have captured some atmosphere in the background, German Tornado's looked good as well, any sight of Nimrod when you were at Waddo?, as you know they are being scrapped and I think the sensitive stuff is being taken out at Waddo Cheers Rog PS forgot to mention I was down at the main guard room at CBY on Thursday pm and got a good sight of the Tornado gate guard, might see if I can get some pics of it in the future
