  1. That AA Battery was in the field across the road from 8 Holme Road, West Bridgford where my grandmother and her children, i.e. my mother, 3 aunts and an uncle lived. Your grandparents were lucky, OLDACE...the war stories told always included the guns shaking the house when fired and the noise was as bad. Not as bad though as the bombs that fell on that fateful night that the Blitz came to Nottingham....a stick of bombs fell short and 2-3 fell in the field opposite their house in a line leading directly to the Co-op Bakery. Those explosions blew out all the front windows of their house bu
  2. Why aren't these 'migrants' busting their necks to get into Russia or its' satellites? Russia is a nice, friendly country that would ensure them work.
  3. Wouldn't it be great if we could put ourselves in the dryer for ten minutes; come out wrinkle-free and three sizes smaller! Last year I joined a support group for procrastinators. We haven't met yet! I don't trip over things, I do random gravity checks! I don't need anger management. I need people to stop pissing me off! Old age is coming at a really bad time! When I was a child I thought Nap Time was a punishment ... now, as a grown up, it just feels like a small vacation! The biggest lie I tell myself is ... "I don't need to write that down, I'll remember it." I don't have grey

  5. Surely that truck driver must have been driving or manoeuvring on the footpath?? Google would indicate that. Hope he has the book thrown at him!

  7. In essence, everything contrary to the rules, rites, respectfulness, politeness, family traditions and adherence to our true history as instilled in us by our parents and teachers back in the 40s, 50s and to some extent, the 60s.
  8. Bubblewrap....even November is too early!

  12. Wikipedias' explanation of the Rag and Bone Man origin:- In the UK, 19th-century rag-and-bone men scavenged unwanted rags, bones, metal and other waste, from the towns and cities where they lived.[2] Henry Mayhew's 1851 report, London Labour and the London Poor, estimates that in London, between 800 and 1,000 "bone-grubbers and rag-gatherers" lived in lodging houses, garrets and "ill-furnished rooms in the lowest neighbourhoods."[3] The bone-picker and rag-gatherer may be known at once by the greasy bag which he carries on his back. Usually he has a stick in his hand, and this is armed wit
  13. Getting close there, Dave 48......you have the ice cream girl at the pictures, the orange drink and the fact that is was cold and delicious BUT, the containers were not that shape and not transparent. They were similar in shape and make up to a current day milk container but with rounded edges. But Kia Ora was good................. Another thing you could do with the straw and the paper wrapper it came in was to tear up the wrapper into 3-4 pieces, roll each piece into a dart and then just like a blow dart, blow the paper dart through the straw at some unsuspecting twerp in the audience. E
  14. Not really, Dave 48. The Kia Ora from the pictures' ice cream girls was in a plastic coated carton, probably about a third of a pint in content and you used a straw. My taste buds are starting to run as I picture the orange taste.
  15. Thanks Commo....but definitely not Cornwall. I will attempt to post some photos in due course.....
  16. Thanks MargieH....Exactly the opposite....both the wife and I were bought up in the country and we have spent most of our lives where we have had paddocks instead of neighbours. It will be like going back to our roots, so to speak. Actually, it has so much in common with were I was raised in ROT, similar sized land area, backing onto to cliffs overlooking a river, peace and quiet. Packing and removal is one headache we will not have - just a bloody great expense. Removalists will pack everything for us and it will be shipped over to Tasmania by the ferry and then onto the new home. The p

  18. I remember the Gresham back in the late 50s and it was considered a posh place back then.............can remember swank cars and suits and ties outside the place and I used to pass it twice a day for at least 5 days a week back then.
  19. The wife and I are having a sea change....have bought a place with two and a half acres overlooking the Tamar valley and river down in Tasmania, sold the house here in Melbourne and we move, lock, stock and smoking barrels, in 3 weeks.
  20. I remember the Kia Ora orange drink in a plastic carton that you could buy from the ice cream girl at half time at the pictures...now that was a very nice orange drink!!

  22. Definitely the owners in many cases, caftan. Have you tried this method of washing your cats???? Firstly, lift the toilet lid and the seat ... Next add some pet shampoo to the toilet bowl. Go and carefully pick up your sleeping cat and carry it to the bathroom. Put the cat in the toilet in one smooth movement and close the lid. At this point it would be prudent to stand on the lid because the by now very awake cat will self agitate, causing ample suds to clean it and the toilet at the same time. Ignore the noises from the cat ... it's probably just enjoying it! For good measure,
  23. Feral cats are a big problem down here, decimating the wildlife to such an extent that culling is probably the only effective solution. One example is Phillip Island, renowned for its fairy penguin population. The feral cats are running rampant, entering the burrows to kill the chicks and even killing the adults as they return to the colonies after leaving the sea. As far as the authorities on the Island are concerned, it is open season on the cats year round!
