  1. It even applies to Ben who is nothing if not uxorious! .
  2. A fair number also derive from Latin. It's regarded as a dead language but is extremely useful.
  3. That's ok if you can find a disabled space. I've taken a couple of elderly friends to hospital appointments recently. They have disabled badges but no car, so anyone who drives them can use a disabled space. Rarer than rocking horse droppings, disabled spaces!
  4. Did the aromatherapy and holistic massage course first at night school in the early 90s. Not enough interest in the reflexology course but I would have liked to do it. Instead, we did a meditation course and, as I was already doing yoga, the two combined well. They have stood me in good stead. I am fortunate that nothing ever bites me. An advantage inherited from my father and his father!
  5. Many years ago, I did a course in aromatherapy and holistic massage. There was a follow on course on reflexology and it looked very interesting but not enough people were interested in doing it. Like acupuncture, it works for some and not others. Faith, I suspect, has very little to do with it as acupuncture has achieved measurable results on animals. As I've said before, I don't relish the idea of prescription drugs so would always give alternative therapies a whirl.
  6. You have my sympathy, Eileen. I had a couple of falls...well, on one occasion I slipped because it had been raining and I was racing up the garden path...2 or 3 years ago. Both occurred in my garden where no one could see me but I felt a proper prawn anyway. Thankfully, no breakages so that must say something positive about my bone density, if not my brain density. On the second occasion, I landed on all fours and badly bruised my left knee. Still hurts at times but no longer swollen. Also a very swollen heel of my left hand. Could have been much worse. Hope you're soon pain free a
  7. Remember it very well, Rod. Travelled into town that way from childhood.
  8. You've surely realised by now Ben that we females have you lot sussed!
  9. W&G was rubbish compared to Gillows which is still highly collectible if you can find it.
  10. Well, you learn something every day! Just noticed this. It would appear that, prior to the building of The Manning, there was housing running across the site...Wilfred Avenue...and Stanley Road ran right down to Gregory Boulevard. I had no idea.
  11. Someone told me we're due for a heatwave this weekend. In February? You won't hear me complaining! might even leave the liberty bodice off!
  12. Not to worry Trogg. Still in the spare room? I think you need to lodge an appeal for clemency!
  13. I didn't know John Hardy, Trogg. I think it was Mary who was asking about him.
  14. Welcome Pete. Not sure whether you remember Walter Riley, also tall and painfully thin as a result of his time as a POW in Burma. Lovely man. Had many tales to tell of policing in Nottingham.
  15. Yes, it was formerly known as Derbyshire Neck and it does seem to be very prevalent round here!
  16. Prof Elkidiki is lovely. I've seen her twice at Kings Mill. The worst thing about thyroid problems is that it creeps up on you so slowly and it's not until it becomes quite bad that you begin to notice there's anything wrong. So many people these days have this problem and I'd love to know why.
  17. Very true. Dodgy thyroids affect every cell in the body but as long as you keep taking the tablets, as they say, things will improve.
  18. Stick with it, SG. The thing about thyroid problems is that progress can be very slow so patience is needed but you will get there.
  19. Loved those gollies! Very interesting history too.
  20. Including liberty bodices...2 shillings and 11 1/2d!
  21. How about getting a couple of diamonds, or even zirconias, set in those new teggies of yours, Ben? Then you'll really be able to light up a dark corner!
  22. I'm surprised that Ben still speaks to me or certain others after the leg pulling he gets, especially when he's been so ill. Keep smiling Ben. Laughter really is the best medicine!
