  1. Never been to the Motown and Soul Night Craig but will endeavour to go next time you have one, where is it advertised? I used to go to the Polish Club in the 60's and I think the very last time I went there (in the 60's) I got so very drunk on Barley Wine! Never touched the stuff since, yuk!!
  2. It's too long ago but I thought Kenny Astle's minivan was dark green! I remember the big 'E' on the back door. Wasn't he the lad who looked a bit like Keith Richard?
  3. Pharoahs was on Broadway, down at the end I seem to remember
  4. I seem to remember the infamous Stu Morris being a bouncer at Pharoahs.
  5. And me, but only if I still have my mobility and marbles!
  6. Andy, Intercon was the first club that was opened there, by the clock tower. It opened I reckon around 1972. I went to the opening night with a friend who worked for the Nottingham Topic ........ we got in for nothing and were invited to a private party in one of the side rooms and enjoyed drinks and nibbles, my friend left the party with jars of caviar in her handbag !!! Pans People were there and I think Lou Christie was the main act, though it might have been Hot Chocolate because I do remember seeing them there too.
  7. I believe that most people who join Nottstalgia do so because they have an affection for Nottingham, whether they live in the county or live on the other side of the World. I found the site because I googled 'Dungeon Club' so I could re-live my teenage years if you like. I'm not interested in trains and buses but I can appreciate that many members are. We come from all backgrounds but we have a common love of our home city. Some received an arguably better education through luck at the age of 11. Some have made it in business and probably had a better life than a lot of other folk. Some
  8. I went to watch a Charity football match down there in the mid 60's. No idea who was playing, don't think they happen these days do they?
  9. My kids used to enjoy going in McDonalds when they were young but now I only have a McDonalds about once a year, when I have a sudden urge! In 1988 I took my Granny out shopping and as we walked past a McDonalds she asked me what a burger was like. I suggested we went in so she could see for herself, she really enjoyed her lunch ........ she was 90 at the time, bless her.
  10. Like Darkazana I'm really surprised about McDonalds being in the UK that early on. The first time we ate in one was in 1980 in Victoria, British Columbia. We'd gone over there with 2 little ones, a 3 yr old and a 1 yr old. Whilst in England we wouldn't have dreamt of taking them into a restaurant at that age but McDonalds provided high chairs!!! Marvellous ...... why did it take so long for other companies to think of that idea?
  11. Never had a budgie Riddo but we did look after one belonging to a neighbour while they went on holiday. My Mum just wouldn't entertain the idea of us having pets and I know she never had pets when she was a child. My Dad eventually got around her and went and bought a Mynah bird that we called Fred. He was in this big metal cage hanging on the wall in the lounge and due to his diet of mainly fruit the cage had to be cleaned out every day. Poor Dad would do that as soon as he got in from work every night. While the cage was being sorted out Fred was let loose to fly around the room, poo-ing
  12. Very best wishes to you Tony. Hope you pop in occasionally though
  13. We went to see American Hustle a couple of weeks ago and need to see it again because I found it hard to follow!! It's up for Oscars in the Comedy and Musical awards ...... Yes it was amusing a lot of the time but I wouldn't class it as a Musical. Our son went to see it and he thought it was brilliant, maybe a younger mind appreciates it more.
  14. Commo # 16 I used to watch Muffin the Mule too but even at that young age I didn't think much of him ........ he walked about as fluidly as Spotty Dog in the Woodentops !
  15. Off at a tangent here but a couple of years ago I sat next to a lovely elderly man at a friend's birthday party. He was Air Vice Marshal Larry Lamb who was apparently involved in the Berlin Airlift. And then there's that other Larry Lamb who's on the telly now and again.
  16. And so do I Katyjay! And if you were up late enough you'd see the dot go off the telly at the end of broadcasting.
  17. HELLO CHILDREN ....... EVERYWHERE The 'Play Rhymes' topic made me think of a favourite Saturday morning children's request programme on the radio in the 50's and 60's and although I can remember a lot of the songs I went searching for an LP I bought my kids in the 80's which features 22 of the lovely innocent children's songs that were played when I was little. Needless to say, my own children didn't enjoy listening to the music that I grew up with but the LP is still here in my collection! The signature tune of the radio programme was 'Puffin Billy' Danny Kaye featured a lot with songs
  18. Well done Carni, you've worked hard for that !!
  19. So I assume that the Ouse Bridge crossed the 'river Ouse' ......... it was just a narrow stream (dyke) running alongside the cricket field when I lived in Netherfield, in fact it ran across the bottom of our garden and as a little tot I could jump over it.
  20. Interesting Cliff ton, and the track leading down from Hickling's Lane to the railway line is on there. Used to go along there a lot as a kid, down to what we all called 'Jonah's'. Wonder if anyone knows why the area was called that.
  21. Babs, Hatrick says she lived at No 51.
  22. Ok I see the road sign and must have looked at it hundreds of times over the years but I always thought, like NewBasfordlad that the name changed at the bend in the road. But, regarding the Sandfield Road gardens backing onto the railway cutting, my brother's garden not far up from the junction, is really quite long. Anyway, I'll let you train buffs get back to your topic!
