  1. As it so happens I did a 1935 12hp AS back in the 80s. I can post some pics if of interest. I sold it in the early 90s to the great nephew of Sir John Siddeley I think he and his family still own it. There was a complete 12hp engine for sale at Beaulieu Autojumble last year. One of the interesting features of the 12hp was the lack of a clutch, this being achieved through the Wilson pre-select box. It also had a Lucas Startix fitted, built in jacks on each corner and downdraught Claudel Hobson carb as I recall..
  2. Brit in the 60s fabulous....! Saw some great bands.
  3. Will be there with a 1930 Chrysler 70, a big old brown fabric bodied car. Class B ……………….. B41. Come and say hello if your around.
  4. Back in the 60s and very early 70s I blotted too many Nottingham copy books too often. Self exile was the only answer. I left in 71 and very seldom returned other than to visit elderly Ps and sibs. It has suited me and the wonderful thing about this forum is that it makes it possible to recollect some of the happier and more carefree moments of my earlier life in Nottingham.
  5. Lovely day here ! Some garden chores to get done then into the garage/workshop! I want to get a 1930 Chrysler running and behaving well enough to get to the Autokarna at Wollaton Park on Sunday 9th June. Shock absorbers ready to fit and mod to steering needed. Rear axle pinion seal wants attention otherwise it steadily ejects the oil...……….. and we do not want that on our roads do we? Got me thinking that road surfaces must have been considerably greasier/slippery 50years ago when oil seals were not as effective as they are today.
  6. I like the starkness of the question Brew? I don't think I was...………….but you know how memory fades and the past gets re-invented.
  7. Ian there are some bits of life it is worth keeping to yourself! Danny may not appreciate the world knowing about his earlier career or the address from which he did business. I am thanking my lucky stars you have not been a customer of mine...…………………………………..
  8. Beekay as requested period pic of two toffs in a Sunbeam 16-20 round about 1914. Not quite sure if I will attempt this kind of body work as I don't enjoy doing that as much as I like the mechanical fettling. And this as far as I have got with rebuilding one of these;
  9. Thanks for tips yes philmayfield have been on to BHA and Brew I have been on to model makers. Got a possibility in Derby! Will post a couple of pics once I have mastered the uploading to a site
  10. Pouring with rain here! In my garage doing stuff towards the restoration of an early Sunbeam. On the shelf I have a very early Watford speedometer (1910) that has some brass gears missing. I would very much like to use this Speedo and am looking for somebody like a clockmaker who might be able to cut some gears for me anyone on this forum know of a retired person or enthusiast who could do this kind of work. I have tried local clockmakers and indeed one or two nationally but I think that the work is not sufficiently interesting to them.
  11. Heads Up The Autokarna at Woolaton Park is taking place on Sunday 9th June. I will be there with a car...…….whatever is running well will have to do! Hope to meet one or two of you as we have in the past.
  12. I am completing the assembly of a 1914 Sunbeam and looking for a registration number to suit. The registration numbers of cars at this time were two letters followed by numbers (usually four numbers) If anyone has a reg. number of this type, on retention, that they want to sell then please let me know.
  13. Interesting thread...……………………... I am sure we all value tolerance “Men build too many walls and not enough bridges.” ― Joseph Fort Newton
  14. Well said Fly2, nothing wrong in profit. Much wrong in excessive exploitation to realise excessive profit. A wide contextual perspective and sense of fairness are helpful...……………..
  15. Great posting letsavagoo! Your reminder of the heartbreaking losses of 1918 should never be forgotten; as indeed the losses of both world wars. We seem unable to learn lessons from our past and have a most unfortunate capacity to generate new ways of causing mayhem and grief.
  16. The often used insult was...…………………... Demings Lemmings! TQM was problematic in a number of places
  17. The chosen music is so beautiful! Commo (Graham) your family will be together in your shared grief and you will together readjust. My thoughts are with you.
  18. Brings back memories! That’s where the barbers was ! On my way home from school on the 31 bus I would stop off here for a haircut (if family funds will allow). By the time I was a teenager this was the place where I could comfortably buy “something for the weekend sir”.
  19. Also nothing better...……...like on here.
  20. I think it very good and like any other organisation has a variety of membership including the full range of humanity. One man’s best friend is another’s boring old fart!
  21. Corbyn is a politician with principles, to his credit he sticks to them. I prefer his consistency to those who lie and change their minds according to personal profit or popularity.
  22. No hair left on my head...…………..
  23. Morning Men and Women and of course all those that consider themselves gender neutral, Lovely dawn here and the day looks as if it holds promise. I intend to get the shopping done soon (Morrisons for some good fish) Then, a day in the garage sorting out a reluctant gearbox linkage and reorganising lathe tools. Then to a local for some amber nectar...……………………... Enjoy the day!
  24. Rog, you could consider a dynostart off a ride on mower; that will start and charge ………... You would need a belt not a starter ring, I am looking at that on a big 4litre Sunbeam at present. If you wanted a starter ring where would you go?
