  1. Are you suggesting that Ian should have special dispensation? Don’t you think the opinion of the majority counts? I really do hate this. I’ve stood up for the guy before, but he seems hell-bent on upsetting as many folks as he can. To be honest I think that this has gone too far now. I think the mods need to exercise their power for the greater good of the site.
  2. But it’s easy (and infuriating) to be dismissive without putting forward a sensible argument! Why is it laughable? Why is it sad? You’re just confirming your detractors views. To be honest it’s beginning to seem to me that you are being gleefully confrontational, and THAT’s what’s laughable and sad. Why do it. Why post such inflamatory stuff when you know what will happen. Do you enjoy causing trouble? I’m really sorry, but if it comes down to it I’d rather see you banned than lose half a dozen other members. (Oh dear, better get the fan out!)
  3. Sorry Plantfit, I agree with Fly and Nonna. Why is it so difficult to avoid politics, and, if posts on politics are banned on this site, then why should we make exeptions for one man? If posts on marigold gloves were banned, then so be it .... or find another site, Sorry, I appreciate some of Ian’s posts. Those I don’t I just don’t comment on. We actually seem to have some things in common, but Ian, please, don’t do it - it would be a real shame to lose you.
  4. Or is that Prewin? At age 89. RIP.
  5. At last! No more avenues to explore, no more waiting for emails from the National Archives to tell me, "No, you can't have a look!" My short work on the Pretty Windows murder is finally finished! I put a link on here some time ago, but the "book" has grown slightly, and been re-written and re-jigged many times since. Also, we have new members who might be interested. I think I've polished it as much as I can, but there's some who say, "You can polish a t**d as much as you like, but it's still a t**d". (Excuse my vulgarity, ladies!) Anyway, for them as wants it you can d
  6. Remember Elliman’s Embrocation? My grandad used it for muscle aches. Seem to remember it smelled like newly cut wood and vinegar. Strangely pleasant!
  7. Eyup Roy. I went to Monkeydella an’all! Learnt me ‘ow to talk proper
  8. For anyone interested ... the Albert Hall reflected in the Sky Mirror outside the Nottingham Playhouse The Arboretum The top memorial is in the General Cemetery at the corner of Clarendon and Waverley Streets The bottom memorial is outside the High School on Arboretum Road As Ben said, the plaque is on the Bell The lady with the lute is on one of the houses at the bottom of Clarendon Street where the Spanish Guitar Centre was based may years ago.
  9. Went out for a meal in Chaing Mai once and hired a couple of tuk tuks to get back to the hotel - me and the missus in one, daughter and fiancee in the other. The drivers looked at each other, then at us (think they were checking to see if we were up for it) and then we were off! Raced each other all the way back to the hotel. Probably the most exhilarating and dangerous thing I’ve done!!
  10. I posted this in another topic ages ago. Might help ... “On Postimage you need to register for a free account. Then you click on the little cloud icon with the arrow to upload and browse your photos to find the one you want to upload. Postimage only has access to those photos you upload - not your entire collection. Once uploaded, click on the photo and then on the share icon. Out of the list of gobbledegook that comes up, click on the little icon that looks like a folder at the end of the “Hotlinks for forum...” line. This copies the “address” of your photo.
  11. He not only knows where, but who! Well done, Ian!
  12. I’d never seen the memorial that depicts an officer calling on his men. So powerful. Pity it’s not in a more prominent position.
  13. This one's a bit obscure. A row of houses with some really ornate carvings above the doors. It's particulary relevant that she's playing a stringed instrument as one of these buildings was occupied, some years ago, by an "establishment" well into stringed instruments! Sorry for flooding the site with photos!
  14. Cricket fans will know the name, but on which city centre building is this blue plaque ...
  15. Two war memorials within 10 minutes walk of each other ...
  16. Not been here for years, and this time visited places I'd not seen before ...
  17. Went on a treasure hunt with grandkids and family on Sunday, and it was nice seeing them learn a bit about their city. I must admit I too learnt a bit, despite being Nottingham born and bred! I was playing with my old camera, so decided to take it along. Thought you might like to join the game .... where's this then. I'm sure these will be dead easy for you experts! We started here...
  18. Think that was Allders department store. There was a bridge from their second floor to the car park. Can't remember if it was anything pre-Allders.
  19. If it’s Schroedinger’s cat, where is it? Or does it even exist?
  20. You could also get more pills than in Boots. I remember the back room very well!
  21. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/02/15/upshot/british-irish-dialect-quiz.html Link wouldn’t work for me, so googled it. Very accurate!
  22. Thanks Ian. I only did a bit - but if we all did a bit, we’d gerra lot done!
