  1. There’s no further information on the local grapevine this morning but a lot of gossip about it, my wife informs me, as she’s been up the village for the newspaper. Allegedly the car was reported going into the river at Hoveringham around 4.15 pm. Looking back on Flight Radar the air ambulance from Waddington commenced a search at around 4.36pm closely followed by the police spotter plane from Doncaster at 4.40pm. The Coastguard Sikorsky S92A, from Humberside arrived at 5.10pm and the air ambulance stood down and landed in a nearby field. There’s no updates on line at the moment.
  2. I had to self inject in my stomach area for some days after my hip op. Not a problem.
  3. It's all quiet. I can't see any blue lights from here, half a mile away. Just watch the news. There's no further updates online yet.
  4. It's all gone quiet now. It was on the local TV news. There is still traffic congestion at Hazelford Cross roads and further up at Lock Lane according to Google Maps. Obviously I'm not going out to get in the way. I'll go and have a look out of the landing window to if I can see any lights.
  5. There’s been a lot of activity around here. Apparently a car was seen floating down the Trent at Hoveringham. I was first alerted by the sound of the air ambulance flying over so I watched it on the Flight Radar app. It was orbiting around the area. It was subsequently joined by the police spotter plane based at Doncaster which circled the area for some time. The next thing was a huge coastguard helicopter from Humberside flying over the house. It appeared to be illuminating the search area with its floodlight. There are police, fire engines and ambulances down at Hazleford. The aircraft have
  6. I think a lot of people are just too cautious to buy non standard cartridges. It’s similar to those who go back to the dealership to get the Adblu topped up in their diesel cars.
  7. I think that many people are duped into buying official inks. The ‘copiers’ are well able to convince the machine software that they are originals. I’ve been using copy cartridges from Internet Inks for years with no loss in print and colour quality. No doubt, like everything else, they are made in China. Probably in the same factories as the genuine articles!
  8. It was all to do with the abolishment of grammar schools by the local authority. It became a co-ed comprehensive and I believe it changed its catchment area to its own locality. It then went even further downhill when it became a ‘sports college’. It was ultimately put into ‘special measures’. The headmaster I spoke to at the closing down ceremony was a PT guy who had been there for some years and I believe had replaced Fred Sutherland. The old headmaster, George Houston, MA Oxon. would have been turning in his grave. An institution of academic excellence becoming a failing sports’ college. It
  9. I think it’s now called Blott’s Country Club and it specialises in weddings in ‘normal’ times.
  10. It does vary. At Newark they put the time of the jab on your card and woe betide you if you tried to escape before 15 minutes!
  11. It was a very pleasant young policeman who greeted me at the door of the barn and handed me a mask. (they don't trust the one you're wearing!) I asked him if doing this job was better than arresting criminals and he agreed. As for driving a distance, I took each of our cars on a longish 20 mile run on Thursday. I think its essential to give them an occasional blast, especially if they are diesel, to clear the DPF filters which can get clogged up on short journeys and can lead to problems.
  12. Come to Newark. It's easy parking and gives you a run out! Just try and look deranged and you'll easily fit in. My daughter, a part time NHS worker, whilst she completes her MA, just had one at the dreaded King's Mill. She got an 'I've had a Covid vaccine' sticker lucky bugger!
  13. I found the staff at Newark showground to be excellent. It was the half wit customers that were slowing things down. Must be something in the water round those parts!
  14. A lot of shops closed on a Saturday afternoon as well.
  15. With the cartridges I buy from ‘Internet Inks’ they are recognised as ‘genuine’ straight away.
  16. I may be relatively old Ben but I don't think 'old and I certainly don't act 'old!
  17. There was also a Thursday afternoon cricket league. I remember matches being played on the field behind the Vale Hotel on Thackeray's Lane. The managing director of Redmayne and Todd, the football sponsors, at that time was Eric Norris.
  18. Jimmy Clitheroe, the Clitheroe Kid, was awful. Peter Brough was a good ventriloquist on the radio but when he moved to TV he couldn't do Archie's voice without moving his lips!
  19. I think Kathy Kaye was Billy Cotton's singer. Kitty Bluett was Ted Ray's radio wife in 'Ray's a Laugh.
  20. Printers are relatively inexpensive. It’s the inks that can be costly if you buy the ‘approved’ varieties.
  21. I’ve used Canon for many years although I upgrade from time to time. Never had any problems. I buy my ink online from Internet Inks at Keyworth Notts. Much cheaper than most and excellent quality. No problem about recognising ‘alien’ inks.
  22. It certainly was rather agricultural. The car park I was directed to did say VIP but it went downhill after that when I had to join the common herd.
  23. I had mine at Newark showground this morning. I thought there would be a special VIP section but no, I had to queue with the rabble! What a load of doddery old farts. Am I really one of those? I had to stand in a cold barn before I was allowed into the inner sanctum. I was ordered to sit down for 15 minutes rest afterwards. There was no sign of coffee and biscuits or a gin and tonic. It took about 40 minutes all told but mainly because half the old fogies in front didn’t know what day of the week it was!
  24. I live not far from Southwell racecourse. I’ve been once, out of curiosity, in 60 years. I couldn’t really get excited about it. I once placed a bet on the Grand National but lost so I never did it again. I used to have a dabble on the roulette tables at the Victoria Club many years ago but £5 was my maximum outlay.
