  1. I've got a keyboard surplus to requirements if you want it Ben.
  2. I’ve just discovered it was a Rav 4 so not a full-on SUV then!
  3. I see Sir Keir knocked someone off their bike whilst driving in his SUV to visit his tailor. That’s my kind of ‘socialism’. Had it been Jeremy Corbyn he would have been on his pushbike cycling to the Oxfam shop to find a suit.
  4. I read that Carolyn Radford has moved to a villa in the Algarve for 'a better quality of life'. It's got to be better than Mansfield!
  5. I don't think coarse fishing is as popular as it once was. Round here there used to be coachloads of fishermen at weekends taking part in competions along the Trent. Now you just see a few solitary figures. I don't know if they still use maggots, I've caught fish easily with bread balls years ago. I've just checked and find that you can buy maggots online in various colours for next day delivery!
  6. A maggot factory used to be at Elston Hall near Syerston, just off the old Fosse. It became a restaurant, The Coeur de Lion, and is now a heath and beauty spa but we still know it as the the maggot factory. If some of the ladies having a massage there knew the history they might go elsewhere!
  7. I think it was Nottingham Hide, Skin and Fat on Trent Lane and Bitterlings on nearby Freeth St. off Meadow Lane. They emitted a disgusting characteristic smell. I believe Bitterlings moved to Stoke Lane and the smell went with them. There’s no smell emanating from that region now, even the nearby sewage works doesn’t pong. Here in the Trent Valley we do get an occasional whiff from the Newark sugar beet factory if the wind’s blowing this way but it’s not grossly offensive. There is often a smell from the Newark sewage works when driving on the bypass towards Lincoln and there are regular compl
  8. We're still in tier 2 in Newark and Sherwood.
  9. I’ve just come indoors from doing some leaf clearing. I don’t think I’ll be working outside in shirtsleeves for much longer!
  10. A lot of people eat with their fingers now. They don’t know what a knife and fork is for!
  11. I’ve just Googled it and see the old Oxford has been replaced with a newer building further down. I did drink in that one when I went to the Mellish closing ceremony a few years ago. My wife dropped me off and collected me so I could have a few for old times sake!
  12. Is the Oxford still there? That was our school pub when we were in the 6th. form.
  13. Could be. It's an unusual name. The Hyde Barkers had a travel agency in Southwell.
  14. Last time I had an ingrowing toe nail I did the operation myself. It was a bit bloody but it was successful. I don't think now I would be flexible enough to bend my leg that far. There's a good chiropodist in Southwell, who does both private and NHS work. Hyde Barker.
  15. I use Aspen two stroke mixture. It doesn't go off like a petrol mix and can be left in the tank for ages. It starts even when left in over winter. Failing that I use a Stihl oil with a stabilising additive to mix with the petrol. Its usually clagged up carbs that stop two strokes from firing.
  16. I’m rather pleased with myself. I’ve just cut 100 yards of one side of my Leylandi hedge, about 8 feet high, with my new Gtec battery powered hedge cutter. I didn’t think it would be up to the job but it laughed at it using one full battery and a little bit of the spare. The contractor who did my field hedges trimmed the top and the field side for me with his tractor mounted cutter last week. Battery tools are becoming so much better now. They’re powerful without the raucous noise of a two stroke engine and much lighter. I’ve not got rid of my two stroke tools yet though as they are still requ
  17. My car, being German, obviously always has the clock at the right time. My wife’s car, being British, has to have the clock altered. There may be a way of making it change automatically but there’s so many things to tab through in the programming that it’s not worth bothering.
  18. They're trying to protect the non essential shops that have been forced to close but like so many of the rules they are ill thought out and often ambiguous. Fortunately there is still Amazon to deliver to the door. I did have to go out yesterday though to buy greenhouse glass. That's something they won't deliver!
  19. I can remember and have been in them all. Its just too tedious to type them all out using one finger on my phone!
  20. Dancing is one of the many social graces that I've never managed to master. I went once to a dance school with my fiance above Burtons in Newark. We started with the waltz and progressed to the cha cha during the evening. I kept falling over on the polished floor. Fortunately there was a bar so I spent most of the evening in there much to my partner's disgust. She did marry me eventually though!
