  1. The Wigan link would that the bodies were built at Wigan, by Northern Counties Motor Engineering.
  2. Didn't even know there was such a thing as a white power salute. Next thing you know the French will taking offence to our reversed V-sign salute. (Remember Agincourt)
  3. Jonab, when were you living in Sherwood Rise. My Dad, Clive Johnson, grew up and lived in Regent Street until 1963.
  4. They'll have to finish mending Tornado first. She's still in pieces following her failing at Wansford in the spring.
  5. Sent a player off after 48 SECONDS today. Most horrendous two footed tackle, he says to me: "You can't send me off in the first minute". I replied it doesn't matter if its the first or the last minute, if the tackle has the potential to break your opponent's leg. Off you go".
  6. I hate to say it, but there is every chance that this time next year Stoke City will be the world's oldest football league club
  7. Dad, always reckoned they were the best buses he drove, but were much better before they were converted to automatics. He also enjoyed the few remaining AEC Regent IIs that were at Bilborough when he first passed out as a driver.
  8. Roger, I seem to remember that 542 and 543 were delivered as new with G2 automatic gearboxes, but 541 may well have been this first to have been converted from semi automatic. Interesting to note that 540, now preserved at Hucknall, has been re-converted back to semi-automatic and is a much better bus for it.
  9. Trent Bridge depot as I remember it when Dad worked there
  10. Not so. It was a further development of the Nottingham Standard design by John Lowrie and Chris Bradshaw. Certain elements such as bonding glazing, and the single piece entrance door were incorporated into the later Atlanteans numbered from 401 upwards. It was exhibited at the 1978 NEC Motor Show, but it was built to the orders of NCT.
  11. A glass of Novichok to the first 10 through the doors!!
  12. Having visited Deely Plaza, Dallas, I am 100% convinced that the shot came from the grassy knoll. The angle from the Texas School Book Depository is far too steep, given the speed the cavalcade was travelling, only an absolute crack marksman could have made the shot from there.
  13. I remember an NCT Leyland National, 736, being painted as an overall advert for Gee Dee, back in 1977
  14. The Nottingham Standard body was designed and evolved to ensure maximum carrying capacity whilst not sacrificing passenger comfort. The double curvature BET windscreen helped to avoid internal reflections from obscuring the drivers view at night. Whereas some designs are nothing but "form over function" the Nottingham Standard was certainly "function over form", but I personally find it very attractive.
  15. Foxes are wildlife and I accept that. Cats are domesticated and owners should take responsibility.
  16. Pity we let Forest have Dave Needham.
  17. Ralgex spray, reminds me of the time on a cricket tour, when a teammate had Ralgex sprayed into his boxer shorts. When he put hem back on after the match, it took about five minutes for the spray to take effect, then we saw some "moves" we hadn't seen before.
  18. I know this will upset certain members but here goes. Why is it that cat owners think it purrfectly (sic) ok to let their cats roam around and use everybody else's gardens as toliets. I am sick to death of having to clear cat crap from around my roses. If I wasn't so well brought up, it may well have been oushed back through certain letter boxes by now.
  19. Gary Sobers hit six sixes off a Malcolm Nash over. The first time such a feat had been achieved in first class cricket.
  20. 452 was used for a time as a recovery/accident training bus after it had left service with NCT. Pleased to advise that it is currently undergoing restoration at Hucknall and it is being returned to its as delivered single door layout.
  21. Fly, it is not just over the summer. At Christmas, Notts were second, eight points clear of fourth place looking odds on for automatic promotion. In thenned we scrapped into the play offs. Poor signings and trying to play too much football, when League 2 requires more physicality has seen Notts slip to the bottom of the entire football league. Kevin Nolan did well to turn things round and keep us in the league when he first arrived, and for that I thank him. However, a change is needed now to hopefully a long and very dark winter "dhan the Lane".
  22. Fly, that were mi Mam's favourite saying.
