  1. No one doesn't! One says Alexa one more peep out of you tonight...…..
  2. I like to see a nice neat churchyard, a place that shows someone cares and has a bit of respect. Overgrown graves always seems so neglected as though they are an embarrassment somehow.
  3. Wow, glad I'm not downwind from that!...
  4. Don't ask RR it's not worth it. Herself here spent about £50 on matchpots that I can't see are any different to the colour we finish up with - which is the same as before we started - and yes it needed new soft furnishings!
  5. Margie I could write a whole diatribe on that passage, not least that in the absence of knowing of his untimely demise the man made prudent provisions for the future. I do understand the point he makes of the relationship between God and mammon but don't think Luke used a very good example to get his point across. Personally I have no issue with bible quotes in support of an argument.
  6. That opens up a whole different philosophical argument that would be fascinating to explore but here is not the place..
  7. I can't think of anything simpler. Switch on, press clock, press + or minus as required... simples.
  8. Keeping it simple is a Utopian idea that simply won't hold water. Sounds fine and dandy until it's forced on you and you actually have to live it. I'm thinking of China under Mao, everyone wears the same clothes has the same hairstyle and all property is communal. You never have to worry about work, a job is assigned to you, like it or not. You won't have to worry about a car, you're not allowed to own one. Housing is not yours to own, again it's assigned to you according to the value they place on your work. And that just for city dwellers... Aborigine, Amazon tribes and African b
  9. no no you just paint the gates open then you can see and..... It's an old joke
  10. But once the gates are open you will see what's there...
  11. But you have in the past boasted of the designer label clobber you lie to wear...
  12. Chavtimer… not heard that before - like it. Like you I've had Jags but was disappointed with the build quality and Rolex have always been way too flash - quite like the Air King though.
  13. I bought one in Port Said docks Egypt circa 1980. The chap selling it swore that Allah would strike him dead if it was not genuine. He asked for 200 Egyptian pounds (£20) claiming it was only so cheap because he needed to feed his poor starving family. I offered him £5 and a bag of lentils but settled on £15. I still have it in a drawer somewhere, it's automatic and with a couple rocking movements still works
  14. There is no point. There is however pleasure to be derived from owning a fine timepiece and admiring it's aesthetic appeal. Like phones and cars there are cheap and cheerful that will do the same job as those that cost far more - but would never sell if all we wanted was functionality.
  15. Buy mine Phil, it's voice activated and will tell you the time on request, with a bonus feature it can tell you the time after dark!.. The downside is it will tend to whinge when it get hungry...
  16. A gnomon is the pointy bit... Harsh Den... very harsh
  17. THIS IS A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUCEMENT: Superglue that is out of date will not sick plastic but retains an excellent ability to stick fingers! Bored today so decided to make a sundial, as you do. To this end and in the best Blue Peter fashion I cut up a Lurpak tub for a gnomon, the top of a tub of fence paint for the dial and had the aforementioned Gorilla superglue to stick it all together then set about it. Snorreasyyerno. Read instructions for calibrating on the internet but they just waffled on about Latitudes and angles 'n' stuff. Naturally in the truest traditions
  18. It’s far from obvious and it’s only your opinion/interpretation that the Govt lost control. They did not ‘project those fears’ onto the public, they gave them the facts, plain and simple. The Civil Contingencies Act 2004; The Pandemic Influenza Response Plan and Strategic Plan 2014 clearly demonstrate Governments of both flavours made plans to meet a potential national health crisis. The speed and scale of the infections were beyond any reasonable predictions to the point where the plans were inadequate. If there is fault in the predictions and planning it belongs in both camps.
  19. It seems our local facility is so busy the are restricting cars according to the last number on the reg plate, odd one day even the next. Vehicles only no pedestrian traffic at all. I'm told at one time the queue needed a patrol car to prevent it blocking the road.
  20. Have to say I totally agree. We had a young Jack Russel many moons ago that snapped, didn't bite, at one of the kids. within the hour it was in a RSPCA kennel.
  21. Today I'm in a really really bad mood... can't explain why, just am...…..
  22. Quite how you interpret whatever source you have read as being an 'implicit implication that the responsibility for this lies with the great British public' I'm not sure - care to elaborate? Personally I'd say there's a symbiotic relationship between NHS, Govt and public and it's incumbent on each to play their part. If as you say the central plank of the Govt is ensuring the NHS is not overwhelmed I'd suggest they have achieved just that. Where front line staff critical of the level of support? sure a few where but most weren't and just got on with their job. Where
  23. I'd be interested to know how he gets to broadcast the programme...
  24. Must have been good... YouTube have removed it..
  25. Trying to avoid some twit standing in the road taking a photograph!
