  1. Well I can't convince you mate but think of this. Would NASA really let them get away with it? Do you not think they are studying the the progress in great detail to learn just how far China has advanced? They have just tracked a satellite radio signal over 4 billion kilometres, tracking a signal, or lack of, from the moon will be childs play.
  2. That would make for an interesting drive.... I quite fancy a trip like that..
  3. Well blow me down, I skied at Gunthorpe $%""^ yrs ago. Big tip - try not to come off at the turn point Nottingham side of the bridge. One, it's only a few inches deep. Two, it's where the cows come down to drink and pee in the water...
  4. Ayup search for Lagrange points. An empty point in space that can be orbited. In this case it sits between the Sun, the Earth and the Moon... eee the stuff tha learns onere...
  5. A significant challenge faced by the Chinese team was the inability to communicate directly with the spacecraft. Signals to and from the rover are being relayed through a satellite called Queqiao (Magpie Bridge). Queqiao is in a “halo orbit” on the other side of the moon, from where it can communicate with both Chang’e and the Earth. The Guardian. I don't know if you can see this your side of the pond but there is a simple diagram that explains it: https://www.theguardian.com/science/2019/jan/03/china-probe-change-4-land-far-side-moon-basin-crater
  6. Perhaps you should have settled for just having one!
  7. They have a Satellite relay station, they don't communicate directly.
  8. I really can't comment on driving in he US ayeup, I'd like to do it before I get much older. The point I was making is that lowering speed limits on certain roads may be counter productive. Cars will travel closer together and drivers are more likely to notice things, like scenery, and be distracted. On our narrow crowded roads it takes but a fraction of a second...
  9. I'm with you there nonna, bugger'em, I aint going and that's final!
  10. Rather makes my point Ayup, you can't be gozzin at the scenery and concentrating on the road. I know what you mean TBI and we have talked about it at meetings. Different organisations don't compile data in the same way. Logically moving in a vehicle at any speed and having an accident means speed was a factor, had the vehicle been stationary there would be no crash. I've seen one set of figures that suggest the no limit section of the Autobahn has fewer accidents than parts that are limited to120kph. I've also read exactly the opposite. How do we define speed rela
  11. Please don't make this personal letsavagoo. As a RoSPA gold standard advanced driver (plus IAM) and instructor I'm well aware of the need for concentration and I'm not advocating breaking any laws. I merely point out that without visual and physical stimulus or a changing environment a drivers concentration can slip. Driving on a motorway, especially in light traffic, at slow speeds for any length of time is monotonous. Concentration, or lack of, was recognised as a factor by road designers after building the M1. The M6 and subsequent motorways as many will know have m
  12. The problem with reducing speeds on the motorways to 50 or 60 is it's desperately slow. Drivers grow bored, start looking around, fiddle with the radio /CD etc. and generally lose concentration. The irony is the government figures attribute speed as a factor to only 3% of accidents (still far too many) but show little concern to the remaining 97% - I suppose it's because there's no revenue stream.
  13. Yup, gaffer tape on the trigger and the missus riding pillion... sorted
  14. And quite right too, bein banged up is agin yer ooman rights innit. ent yer got no idea ow much a iphone is? can't afford one on benefits after yer pays fer wacky backy n stuff no worramean? Gorra get yer wedge from somewhere enni
  15. I said that to herself once, she said I wouldn't know what to do with a new woman. I told her I didn't want a new one, one about eighteen or twenty years old will be fine....
  16. Mine makes you lazy, it brakes, accelerates and steers it self. The cruise and speed limiter are great but I turn the self steering doo dah off as it makes lane changing a bit weird if it doesn't agree with you.
  17. Most if not all speedometers on UK cars actually read higher than the true speed. The construction and use regulations say the speedo must be within 10% of the true speed but must not under any circumstances read less. So at an indicated 50 you may well be doing no more than 45, at 80 you could be as slow as 72. DO NOT RELY ON IT. Things like tyre wear and pressure make a difference so do not think you can safely exceed the limit. Set the cruise control at the speed limit and you will travelling a few mph less than the limit.
  18. Nurse I actually said 'remove his spectacles'!
  19. It's true the rise of the superbug is a problem but people expect to come away with some form of treatment from the doctors, not to hear them say 'there's nothing I can do for you'.
  20. Better to give them something rather than saying 'go home, stay warm and wait it out' and get a reputation as a poor doctor who does nothing for you..
  21. You probably have a high flicker fusion threshold jonab. Some people are more susceptible than others.
  22. Brew

    Why?

Quite right and I did include the ignorant in my liitle rant. There may well be over a hundred (25/30 per week) but taking several doctors (average 2000 patients each) it's still quite a small percentage. Guessing at five doctors that would be five misses per week or one a day.
  23. At Sneinton infants we wrote with chalk on little page sized blackboards. Always looked for a well worn blackboard and chalk - newly painted boards and chalks made that horrible screeching noise that sets your teeth on edge.

    Why?

Why are so many so eager to impose monetary fines and penalties for minor infringements? Why not suggest a fine for doctors who keep you waiting for an hour, a bus that never comes, a tram that breaks down? People have a life and it sometimes gets in the way, thing happen, they forget an appointment made weeks ago and yes, sometimes just plain ignorance. I would suggest the vast majority do not miss appointments and we can do without these Draconian pettifogging rules and regulations.
