  1. I prefer the now photograph it looks a lot more inviting and pleasant , the only downside is the employment that's gone with those buildings.
  2. You cant beat a bottle of good malt and I think it is good where children go out of their way acknowledge their fathers and especially their mothers on their special day. As for tat that is in the eye of the beholder , its the thought that counts.
  3. As you were only 5 at the time I presume they were watching someone else, is the character, looks and style genetic in your family.
  4. Nonna you are doing the right thing for your mother, you admit due to your health problems you cannot give her all the care that she needs, so to ensure she receives the standard of care she requires as a loving daughter you are arranging the best possible alternative. You should be proud of the loving care you are providing. Then you must spend time on looking after yourself as you also have a wider family to look after.
  5. Sorry Ben but I thought it was normal for each black coffee its one fag, compulsory isn't it.
  6. Yes definitely a cave dweller in my younger days.
  7. Martyn if you went up to a young lady on a bike in the USA and said that now I wonder what would happen to you. I think you could be explaining yourself to the local law enforcement.
  8. Compo you certainly live in a beautiful area.
  9. Jill only ever had to have one of those starving blood tests , of a morning I need three black coffees before I am human, that day I felt sorry for anybody who came near me. I have never been sent for one again I think they knew better. To deprive a person of their morning coffee is a form of torture.
  10. Thanks for posting it caftan ,I still have not mastered the magical art of posting items from postimage and the black magic of laptops.
  11. Sorry Jill with never having met you I never knew your age, so I apologise for making assumptions, I was taught a long while ago that a ladies age is a subject that you don't discuss. Unless of course you are bad mannered, very brave or have a death wish.
  12. Jill the fire at Lindley and Lindley was on the 26 April 1957 at that time it was a textile factory as it contained different types of synthetic fibres and large quantities of cotton lace.
  13. I didn't know the correct place to post this but in the Hucknall Dispatch this week on page 2 is an tribute on Dave Birch (chulla) . They do have a web page so you should be able to read it on there. hucknalldispatch.co.uk
  14. Bubble and squeak with loads of brown fruity sauce, that's another one that been banned , tried telling the wife its good for me it has plenty of veg in it.
  15. There was a café just up the road from Blenhiem school ,same side, if I recall it was a bit of a run down wooden shed type place, in the early 60s.
  16. I can remember the motorbikes outside the Penguin Café. It was at one stage a meeting area for the motor bikers.
  17. Echo wont that bad, it was better than nowt, and it kept the sugar on the bread long enough for you to eat it.
  18. Remember it all, wouldn't like to go back to it, but it was normal then so we thought no more about it and just got on with living. National assistance I didn't know about it , the only thing I knew about being poor and I hated it was having to line up in a different queue because I was "Free Dinners" at school.
  19. At last we found out why it was named Starr road , It was after Katjay when she was a little one.
  20. I think that was in an episode of What happened to the likely lads Ian.
  21. IAN 123 on facebook Bulwell Bygones page there has just been posted "then and now" photos of Commercial road and Robbinsons Hill. 22. Have to agree with you RR I have read these a few times and can see the bikes racing along the boulevard police chasing them, always wanted one myself but first finance stopped me then the wife did. The places they must have visited and the antics pursued.
  23. Robinsons Hill disappeared when they built the High Road, the date I don't have a clue, its just one of the many things that have changed but I cannot remember when. I think the timeline for Commercial road was Starr lane then Quarry road and finally Commercial road, why the changes? I don't have a clue ,so I hope someone can help. Finally on Robinsons hill who was Robinson and who went into the institute on there , usually heard as " are yer going up stute"
