If Ashling Street still exists then I think you’ll find Sutton Street is now under County’s car park.
-
I don’t think there is any correlation between the Plumptre family and the Plumtree village.
Am sure the village predates the families arrival in Nottingham by a few centuries.
The Pumptre family made there fortune as wool merchants, whilst owning tracts of land and buildings in Nottingham, am unaware of them owning swathes of land containing villages. They also owned property in Calais.
The village would have been owned by some Lord. His name eludes my memory.
I wonder if the Plumptre Square hospital founded by John de Plumptre in 1392 was formerly the leper hospital, or was that elsewhere?
Another piece of rubbish stored in my archive is the H in Nottingham is silent, with the word being pronounced as Nottingam.
This I pad does not like the word ‘Plumptre’. -
Time for another song:

@Rob.L: if you hear the milk float at 3 am, isn’t that a good sign. It means you’re still alive.
-
County made 8 changes including 2 debuts. Still no excuse. Coalville did the business on the day.
As for Forest, not sure what anyone can say.
Regarding their numerous signings, I wonder how many are actually the choice of the manager? Also, apparently four of these signings were loaned out to other teams. Why?- 1

@Willow wilson: I had spelt the word correctly, however, my I pad had other ideas: insisting on ‘plum tree’. After faffing about & being in a hurry, I hadn’t spotted the middle ‘p’ was missing. Apologies for my ineptitude. Aide memoir to self, I must control my I pad!

Back to delivering milk:
-
@Oztalgian: A pleasure to be of service, maybe the Christmas song ought to be on the Christmas music thread.
-
@Oztalgian likely to have been named after the Plumtre family who owned a large house on Stoney Street. (John )Plumtre had been an M.P. for Nottingham.

The wheat sheaf was the emblem for C W S (Co operative Wholesale Society)
-
Our milk used to be delivered by one of these vehicles for years. I think you are right about the wheat sheaf being part of the emblem.

Am pleased you are up and ‘Bach’ing again, and your doctor has passed you medically fit. (To play the organ.)
Yes, I had noticed the lack of sheet music and was impressed with his performance on such a fine instrument.
No disrespect loppy, but I think this fellows in a league of his own.
Take care.

Another Nottingham song:

Here’s another, it could be argued she was slightly ahead of her time, but she inspired many others who probably received more attention.

Had been pondering with the thought of putting the original version of Nottamun Town by Jean Ritchie on here, however, as someone has already put a version on this thread, I will slip this up tempo version instead as it’s slightly different.
-
Now to try and make amends and lift the air of gloom:
-
Whilst I have a few moments, here is something different:
-
Nice to see you’re still barking @loppylugs. Don’t see you posting very often.
Just after reading @Cliff Ton post, I looked out of the window and saw a red balloon floating above our house. Coincidence! -
@Cliff Ton: thanks for the explanation, should have realised what had transpired.
Here’s another song to add to this thread:
-
Just realised @Cliff Ton asked me a question, for which I replied. Those messages have disappeared. I think I need a darkened room in which to take a sojourn.
-
Am I losing the plot? Did I have it to lose? Have I lost it without the knowledge of losing it? In the early hours I thought I saw a message from @Beekay listing the bands on the Radio Nottingham record. It’s not there! Did I dream this? The last band listed was Satan’s Vomit. Has my imagination taken a turn and slipped into a parallel universe?
@radfordred: nice one, pleased your joining in, even if it’s by proxy.
-
@Cliff Ton: am unable to access your link, although others have managed to do so.
@Cliff Ton:@Beekay: yes the camera work needs some improvement, however, I think she does songs ad hoc. Her voice gets her “out of gaol”.
She has put up another video at a famous watering hole, however, she’s placed an emoji in the title and the system won’t let me upload it.
-
Have mused and pondered whether to put on this thread the Jean Ritchie version of Nottamun Town. Medieval English folk song which some people believe is about All Fools Day, however, I think it’s about the Black Death.(only my perception.).
Then this popped up and I thought it needed to be on here. (Some may disagree.)- 2

Bit quiet this morning. Soon be a time for reflection.

An alternative Christmas song, for @Oztalgian: Merry Christmas.
