StephenFord 866
Don't worry Rob - they probably all thought the same about you ! I went to a re-union at Long Eaton Grammar School around 40 years after leaving, and met a number of old mates. I don't know if we were all bottle fed on the elixir of youth, but we were all instantly recognisable to each other, and seemed to have weathered well for our years. It was strange, because we actually recognised a few who we knew were younger than us, but seemed to have become old men before their time.
carni 10,094
I think age is more about our Health, Happiness and Attitude and what comes your way in life can affect all of these things. I have through my life met people from most walks in life and most of the ones that look older than their age years are the ones that have struggled with unhappy circumstances and health issues. Of course our genes have a part to play in the aging process. I stopped worrying about my age in numbers a long time ago, I realise Health and Happiness are priority at this time of life. The numbers will come anyway.
Bilbraborn 1,594
I never attended any reunions, but an old school mate who is a teacher went grey quite early. I think how you age is down to how much stress you have to deal with. For instance, although I don't like the man, I noticed how quickly Tony Blair aged when he became Prime Minister. My wife says the reason that I have stayed young looking is because I've never grown up. People who I haven't seen for years always seem to recognize me. I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.
carni 10,094
I have noticed that all of the Prime Ministers age quickly, once they are elected. Serves them right.
jackson 301
Looks like Tony Blair's spruced up again now that he's got a vast, new Palace........................(and he purports* to being a Socialist!) *'purports'; Carni, here's one for you, being as you wrote that you like Dictionaries - had to look it up myself. Bendigo 14
Looks like Tony Blair's spruced up again now that he's got a vast, new Palace........................(and he purports* to being a Socialist!) *'purports'; Carni, here's one for you, being as you wrote that you like Dictionaries - had to look it up myself. Socialist? Are you sure you weren't confused by his accent? I'm sure he's a So-Shall-ist, as in "So shall we buy this house as well, Cherie?"

tomlinson 879
I seem to be attending more reunions these days. Unfortunately they take place at the funeral of some friend or colleague! We're all doomed!!!
Bilbraborn 1,594
Come on. We all know that Cherie was behind a lot of his policies. (or perhaps she purported to be. Oh Dear).

Bilbraborn 1,594
You mean heir to Blair. There you have three men totally out of touch with and completely disinterested in the lives of the people who work their b------s off to keep their heads above water (Blair, Clegg and Cameron) . just so that our taxes can go to people who either sit watching TV all day (UK) or spend it on their own luxuries (foreign aid). Before anyone says there are people who genuinely can't work, I agree. But I have a catalogue of bodily mis-functions, but I would sooner go to work all day than watch the s--t on TV. jackson 301
Must say I thoroughly enjoyed TV last night: watched 'More 4' with the Leslie Phillips interview and then the film that followed: 'Venus', starring Leslie and Peter O' Toole. Interviewed, Leslie came across as a candid, dedicated Professional who'd moved from playing smartly dressed spivs and cads - always a sports car in view - into playing serious Shakespeare. Regarding the film: Leslie and Peter complemented each other playing ageing friends; film was about O'Tooles character as a lothario thespian growing old disgracefully, a pleasure to watch - s'pecially like it when a film has me hooked. Must make mention of Vanessa Redgrave in a cameo role; will never forget seeing Vanessa in 'As You Like It' at Stratford, early 60's. I sat entranced by her ethereal beauty and exquisite acting - compelling to watch, still is............... PS: there's something spiritually comforting about seeing those you grew up with growing older, alongside yourself.........

FLY2 10,109
Re #112 Five men Bilbraborn. What about Kinnock and Brown? Carrot topped Welsh tw*t, and a dour, insincere Jock tw*t. These two have made a vast fortune each by being total incompetent failures. Socialists indeed!!!!!! Pair of w*****s.

MELTONSTILTON 452
I love getting old, and being retired, It means I can do what I want and when I want, within reason, and I do not have to plan things months in advance, because of my work commitments.
Bilbraborn 1,594
If I retired, I would be busy doing all the things my good lady asked me to do. Basfordred. I have come to the conclusion that for some people, Socialism is a stepping stone to being powerful.
Beduth 202
Are the old ones the best ones ? It ain't necessarily so. This is genuine. Being new grandparents, we were shopping at Mothercare. Having selected our purchases we duly came to pay at the cash desk with a debit card. I was convinced the lady assistant said to my wife “please put in your PIN number and placenta”. Do I need a therapist or new batteries?

With me its not so much being able to hold the screwdriver, its more a case of remembering what I wanted the screwdriver for in the first place.
