alisoncc 379
Only seven weeks to go, so a Christmas thread is due. Can't possibly have a Christmas thread without a traditional poem.T'was Christmas day in the workhouse the snow was raining fastA bare-footed man with clogs on came slowly running passed. He turmed a straight crooked corner to see a dead donkey dieHe took out his penknife to shoot it and it kicked him one right in the eye.

alisoncc 379
That's original. I'll pass it on to my mate Charley Dickens. He might be able to use it somewhere. :)

Ayupmeducks 1,730
I'll be stoking the fire up, making the stuffing, helping the wife prepare dinner, drinking good beer, a few whiskies, and watching Christmas movies all afternoon... The only two jobs I'll be doing, are feeding and watering the chickens, and if it's below freezing all day, nip up with fresh water every couple of hours to them. Bilbraborn 1,594
I'll be doing what I do every Christmas Day. Cooking Christmas dinner for the family.
banjo48 928
Sorry but I hate christmas, overated over commercialised the whole point of christmas has been lost. Just an excuse now for overeating and drinking in excess. Appologise if I offend. But for us the best thing about christmas is new years day when its all done and dusted.
alisoncc 379
Just an excuse now for overeating and drinking in excess. You have a problem with that?
banjo48 928
No problem Alison, just we do not do it ! If someone wants to get plastered its their problem not mine, I grew up with an alcoholic brother, uncle and gran so maybe I've been skewed a bit. As for over eating, I'm on a health kick to lose a few kilo's, but I do lve my food. :-)

darkazana 1,736
We love Christmas, but I do not allow preparations to start until December, apart from shopping for gifts and making the Christmas puds and cake. It's a time of giving, not necessarily receiving. A time when our far flung family come together and have a riotous day, but not through drinking heavily....most have driving to do at some time and we do not need to over drink to have a good time, though a good wine always features during mealtimes. With several grandchildren now and always some of them staying overnight Christmas eve it's sheer pleasure to see their eyes light up because Santa Claus has visited, and has accepted their offering of a mincepie and a drink, along with a carrot for the reindeer, and has left them a note thanking them for their thoughtfulness. We enjoy the run up to Christmas, joining the village in their annual carol singing and mince pies on the village green. The best one to remember being about three years ago when we had quite a bit of snow, and the brass band were grouped around the church doorway when a huge chunk of snow slid off the church roof right into the tuba!!! Oh we did all laugh Sometimes we attend the local midnight mass on Christmas Eve, (depending on which church it is at, as we have one vicar for 5 churches ) to remember the reason that we celebrate Christmas. So we do still find the magic that the season brings, and most of it is what we make for ourselves, nothing to do with commercialism, just the joy of having our family around us.

MELTONSTILTON 452
Christmas over here is not as big as in the UK, the village and people put up lights and decoration. In France it is mainly feasting the night of the 24th. and giving the gifts at midnight and that is it, some factory's and shops work normally, New year is the time for party's, and real feasting... So we go to England for Christmas, and return to France for the new year, like that we get the best of both..
alisoncc 379
Just shown this pic to my Wife, she said "poor reindeers" she couldn't care less about Santa. I am reliably informed that male reindeer (Bucks) shed their antlers in Winter whereas the Does don't. So if Santa's reindeer have antlers then it means that what we have is this fat guy in a red suit being hauled around the sky by a bunch of girls.
Ayupmeducks 1,730
Do Doe's have antlers???? Deer Doe don't, only the bucks during the rutting season...
catfan 14,793
Christmas for the christians ! ban it for everyone else !
Bilbraborn 1,594
The bloke whose birthday we celebrate would not ban it for anyone. I put the decos up at the start of December. I make my own mincemeat-some with brandy and some without, and about 6 traditional cakes to give to family and friends. Then I make loadsa mince pies for the same purpose. On Christmas day, everything has to be perfect. I arrange the table for Christmas dinner for my family and take my time cooking a beautiful Christmas roast. I love it. January 3rd down come all the decos. By that time I've had enough.
alisoncc 379
Do Doe's have antlers???? Deer Doe don't, only the bucks during the rutting season... Reindeer experts say, that both the male and female of the species have antlers. It is also a fact that most Does retain their antlers until spring when they give birth, whereas most Bulls drop their antlers by early December.
Ayupmeducks 1,730
Hmmm, we learn summat new every day... I know the buck white tailed deer only grows antlers for the rutting season and the does don't grow any, wonder what a doe Reindeer needs antlers for??
