I misread Ian's post #157 as tropical not topical so it got me thinking of tropical songs

By a Sleepy Lagoon - (theme from Desert Island Discs) Hucknall's own Eric Coates

Island in the Sun - Harry Belafonte

Barbados - Typically Tropical (Coconut Airways)

Island Girl - Elton John

Banana Boat Song  - Harry Belafonte

I cannot listen to the Banana Boat song without thinking of this Morecambe and Wise version with Nina of Nina and Fredrick, a classic.

Sue B 48 I don't think I would ever be able to watch a performance of Swan Lake without bursting out laughing when they got to this bit.

I should maybe point out that the Pretoria Pit Disaster did not take place in South Africa, but at the Pretoria Pit in Westhoughton, Lancs. 1910.  I saw a very interesting talk on the topic recently at our local history society.
