  1. Jill Sparrow, Jill Sparrow, I spotted a young hedgehog at the back of my border around 8 o’clock having looked for any for weeks since the mother was nest building. Pretty light for this one to be out though.
  2. I don’t have an en suite in my shed at the allotment but I do have a bucket. Just as good. When I was down there yesterday having a break by my shed a rat walked within 6 inches of me and scuttled under the shed. Needless to say I wasn’t down there for much longer and bait went down last night and has gone this morning. Haven’t seen it today so hopefully it’s done the trick. I know they have to live somewhere but I still don’t like them.
  3. Wasn’t gentian violet used to treat verrucas ?
  4. Back in the day on a family trip to Anglesey the singer at the hotel very obviously sang “Save the last dance for me” to me. Such was the start of a long relationship at the time. Nice memories.
  5. Sisson&Parker was such a great shop. Such a shame that all these places are “no more”
  6. You can go on tours round St Anns allotments. I did it a few years ago and it was really interesting.
  7. Goodness me, I’d completely forgotten about Jack Brentall’s. I used to go there for sheet music for my cello.
  8. The County hotel used to make the best Pimms in Nottingham
  9. Hello Trogg, mine was too with BT but they reduced the package price when I told them I didn’t need it. Things have probably changed as this was a while ago. Worth a go my friend if you haven’t already approached them.
  10. Guys you must be paying a fee for whoever your provider is for the landline telephone connection. If you’re not using it for home phone calls then stop paying for it if the provider has gone digital and you don’t need the landline to connect to the internet.
  11. Phil, can I presume you are with BT? We got rid of our landline altogether when BT went digital here as we never used it only for the internet. We all have mobiles anyway. It also reduces your bill overall if you’re not renting the landline and the internet just runs off digital.
  12. Ooh we had lamb at the Tap and Run last week actually with redcurrant jus. Not mine though.
  13. Lovely village Phil, very unspoilt still and the older houses nicely kept. Do you know if the shop on the main road in Long Clawson is till open? They might have some nice pies and of course cheese.
  14. Now there’s a thought Beekay, I could send you a sarnie in a Jiffy bag.
  15. We had our trip out for lunch to the newly refurbished Tap and Run at Upper Broughton earlier. It was really well patronised to the extent that they were turning folks away if they hadn’t booked. The food was as good as ever. Not somewhere you would go every week price wise but not typical pub food either. Well recommended for some special occasion though.
  16. Productive Sunday making 22 jars of redcurrant jelly from 12 lbs fruit. Good job I’ve got lots of friends
  17. Guess what else re opened today too, the Tap and Run at Upper Broughton! Well done to Stuart Broad and all the team after the fire last year. Will have to go and report back.
  18. Lizzie, they were so good, how do they still keep going at that pace for two and a half hours.? I had more than a couple to keep up! Roll on Elton tomorrow.
  19. Definitely Jill. Update on ours- nest building in daylight under my day lily 2 weeks ago. Then a couple of days later heard it grunting and squeaking under there. Not seen or heard it since then although clearly they are naturally nocturnal. Our vet reckons it was nest building in daylight because it was near producing hoglets so that would all tie in. Still hoping it is ok but will let you know.
  20. My personal view is that apart from health concerns in some cases, I really don’t care what shape people are but that there is absolutely no excuse for leaving the house looking slovenly. My mother was a shining example of looking as neat as a new pin wherever she went.
  21. Always at your service mentor!
  22. Now there’s been a stabbing in Leicester!
  23. Beekay, if you go to the search box on here and type in medlars, it was a conversation not so long ago. Mrs Bubblegum
  24. Beekay, unfortunately online orders and deliveries not possible, sorry sir. Didn’t manage to harvest my whites today before the rain so maybe let them dry out next week.
