  2. I have recently noticed that Friends Reunited will display somene’s married surname when searching on maiden name. Useful when the only information you have to go on is decades old. FR is also free now. Regards, SR
  3. I assume that's Melbourne near Swadlincote. where Bartons 5C used to go?
  4. My ss was an athlete and did lots of competetive stuff. Not sure if she belonged to Notts AC or not but she used to compete a lot up at Harvey Haddon Stadium.
  5. Taking my family to Eastbourne Airborne tomorrow Beefy. On past experience this should be a good day out. Rain permitting. Sorry I don't have your camera. Cheers Mate SR
  6. My memory must be worse than I thought it was! ;-)
  7. Correct That was my first thought too but I'm damned if I can remember it. No - I don't recognise that name.

  10. Any chance anyone with a scanner who gets this publication can post the images? Thanks! SR
  11. You're right Beefy. It was Gregorys Roses at Bardill's roundabout. Wheatcrofts was out of town on the A60/A606 somewhere. Whoops. Thanks for that!
  12. I don't recall a pub on the A52/Toton Lane (Bardill's) roundabout at all. Can anyone else? As described in prior posts, the Nurseryman is at the corner of Wollaton Road and Derby Road, between the Bramcote and Priory roundabouts. The Rose Grower is on the Bramcote Hills estate at the corner of Sandringham Drive and Bankfield Drive. You are right about the Wheatcroft connection however. Wheatcroft Nursery was indeed at Bardill's roundabout. Although the Rose Grower was named after Harry Wheatcroft, it was actually closer to Lowes Nurseries, which were on Derby Road (opposite The Nurseryman
  13. Hi Val, I grew up on Bramcote Hills estate from it's beginning and remember the Rose Grower very well. At the bottom of our road (Bankfield Drive, at the junction with Sandringham Drive) was a patch of wasteground which had been left for when the surrounding houses were built. It was where we kids played and, most memorably, was the site of our local bonfire on November 5th every year. The land was bought by Hardy Hansons and, despite local opposition (see here), the pub was eventually built. I can't remember which year it opened but it must have been around 1970(?). Bill was the landlord
  14. I usually let spelling go by the by, but this is clearly one illiterate twat.
  15. !rotfl! Brilliant (space saving version ;-)
  16. I remember about 1971 when my mate Phil and I used to meet two girls from Balloon Wood flats in the fields between there and Wollaton. I can't remember Phil's girl's name but mine was Paula. They were probably about 15 at the time.......
  17. The smell of malt as I passed Shipstones every morning on my way to work . . . .
  18. Do you remember those teenage discos? In 1968/9 I was about 15 and I used to go to Pandora's Box teenage disco at Bramcote Memorial Hall. Raverteque was on alternate weeks at the same venue. The music was mostly Motown laced with Atlantic and Stax soul. I remember dancing to The Isleys, Jackie Wilson and, for the slow ones, Jimmy Ruffin. Others discos further afield were The Shed and Soul Shack in Beeston/Chilwell but I never got to those. Maybe you did?
  19. We must have been there at the same time Zab ... on the same bus even. Was anyone else out there in Nottstalgialand there too?
  20. The Grosvenor became a very popular meeting place for a short period. On Friday nights there would easily be a couple of hundred of us meet there. We must have all been barred from both The Fly AND the Sal at the time otherwise so many of us wouldn't have travelled out of town so regularly. It must have been summer 1973 because I remember Bowie's "Aladdin Sane" being released and a friend of mine (Roger C) dressed to match the album cover, lightning make up and all! I wouldn't have minded but I had to travel with him on 2 buses to get there - Bartons 4A from The Nurseryman and then the NCT fro
  21. "Are always upon excretia relief a depth variety!" Says http://www.translation-guide.com/free_onli...&to=English Couldn't have put it better myself!
  22. You might have a long wait! I suggest Charlie's homecoming instead!
  23. I would love too but family and distance make it very unlikely. Have a Harvest Pale for me please :-)
  24. It's My Time - Mynah Birds Go On And Cry - Mynah Birds I can't say I've heard these tracks but as they include Neil Young (in his pre Buffalo Springfield days) they've got to be good. If anyone has invested in The Complete Motown Singles: Vol. 6 then perhaps you can enlighten me? Thanks
