  2. Theres a photo on picture the past, said it was off Canal street.
  3. There is a few houses at the side of the Castle pub, you get to them from Fisher gate, the address is Carter gate so there is obviously some connection.
  4. I think Brentford Nylons was roughly where Mem Sab is now, I seem to remember a frozen food or fridge shop being at the entrance to Mount street bus station, on the left side possibly Bejam or Iceland. This would be mid 70s In the photo posted by Cliff you can see an old tesco store, this is now a tesco express. Tesco must have owned the building for years, as 1 of the reasons the tales of Robin Hood failed was the high rent charged by Tesco.
  5. Newark air museum are giving people the chance to look inside the cockpit of a vulcan, based at Newark 7th of February 2013. http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/rare-opportunity-step-inside-cockpit-iconic/story-17947249-detail/story.html
  6. It was called the milestone when it first opened, it never seemed to be a busy pub, you would have thought it would have done well with it being next to an industrial estate.
  7. There is a talk, on old trolley buses and buses at the central library in Nottingham, tomorrow the 19th of January. sorry about short notice, but I only seen it today. http://www.bbc.co.uk/thingstodo/activity/on-the-buses/occurrence/226864
  8. It was a chemist, Radfordred commented on it a couple of weeks ago.
  9. The place that sold American cars was a little further down the road, I think it was Anglo american cars, they now provide filming vehicles for tv and films.
  10. This a link to a nice map of Nottingham in 1902, there are other maps on the website and loads of info about old Nottingham. http://www.nottshistory.org.uk/resources/maps/ZoomifyExpress4-Win/nottingham1902.htm http://www.nottshistory.org.uk/default.htm
  11. This is a link to a map showing all of the Nottinghamshire staions in 1946. http://www.nottsheritagegateway.org.uk/themes/railways/nottsrailways1946.pdf
  12. There is a place at Awsworth, next door to the Gardeners pub that grows and sells xmas trees, you can even pick your own and cut it down yourself, I got 1 last year and the price was reasonable. Whilst shopping in Beeston yesterday they were £39.99 at Hallams on the High road, seems a lot of money for 2 or 3 weeks.
  13. There was or possibly still is a small shop in Dunkirk that sold and made ropes, they had a factory at spring close in Lenton, this was demolished to make way for the Q.M.C it was a proper old style shop with everything done in house. There is a brief article in the Lenton times website (issue 20) http://www.lentontimes.co.uk/back_i_11_20.htm
  14. Regarding TMS does anyone know how long the 2 bikes have been in the window? they have been there as long as I can remember.
  15. The water level has gone down a bit, as in the photo I posted on Wednesday showed the water all the way up to the wall.
  16. I took some photos at about 3.00pm yesterday, the water had risen a bit from the morning as, the water had just about reached the bench, but in the afternoon it was passed it. The markings on the wall show how far it has to get to the 2000 flood level.
  17. I came along the embankment this morning, the river is over the top steps on the Meadows side. Wilford rugby club pitch is under water and the park and ride at Clifton bridge is closed as that is flooded.
  18. I nipped into Lakeside today, there is lots of old photos of Radford And Lenton, mostly relating to the film. Well worth a look.
  19. There is a Victoria avenue at the bottom of Sneinton dale, so it would probably be around that part of the dale.
  20. I go into the Abel Collins homes now and again, they always look well maintained, and the garden areas are always tidy. There is a brief history here. http://www.abelcollins.org.uk/history.htm .
  21. In the NEP today, Aldi are looking at building a supermarket on the Daybrook laundry site.
  22. Stu, have you seen this site with old photos of Arnold, there is a photo of the New inn. http://www.gjphotographic.co.uk/html/old_arnold_photos.html
  23. Ashley, looking at an old map, on the road from Codnor to Loscoe there was a railway line going across the road, so I presume that is where Loscoe crossing was, there is also a station on the map Crosshill and Codnor station. Looking at a modern map there is a small street, called station lane, this is between Codnor Denby lane and Waingroves road
  24. I found this on google, it gives you an indication of the route. http://focustransport2011.blogspot.co.uk/2011/05/ripley-to-nottingham.html
  25. Looking at a map dated 1895, there is plenty of railways serving, eastwood , kimberley, awsworth and ilkeston, so did the tram, trolley bus, try to take over this business or had the railway already declined by then?
