  1. Should this not be cook's or the under-butler's problem anyway?
  2. I was in France a couple of weeks ago and fort some reason read that as some sort of cream you put on bread. You know you're gtting bewildered when you think that only some words in a sentence are in a different language.
  3. #20, hopefully some of the concession workers can be found places in their parent stores or other concessions.
  4. Turns out my friend has indeed been in charge of putting the bunting up for the past 30 years and is very peed off. I guess the council do have a point. They can't give permission on behalf of all the houses it's attached to.
  5. Which must be because of the state of this country and the EU. It's politicians forcing BHS to try and sell rubbish.
  6. Oh dear. that's a bit of a stretch. BHS had an outdated business model and range that relied on High St presence when so much business has moved elsewhere. Sad and desperate trying to blame the EU frankly. It's nothing to do with the 'state of the country' that so many of us didn't shop there. Primark, H & M, Next, John Lewis, all doing well. BHS just didn't fill a niche any more just as Woolworth didn't. Additionally, one of the reasons BHS couldn't find an investor is because they are all waiting for the referendum in case the vote goes to Brexit. Lots of investors will look elsewhere i
  7. I don't think it was entirely your fault MapperleyMan.
  8. I had a great week in Paris a fortnight ago and only just got rained on the last day. They've managed to get through the pogramme in Roland Garros so it's likely the rain that's causing the Seine to flood has been further upstream.
  9. Possibly the next check would be for death records to establish the year of birth for this particular CJ Adams. Finding that could well establish him as the only possible candidate. Denton is the sort of village where you might even find a resident who remembers that far back too. It may be that the pub is only closed for a refurb as the new landlord was pictured as recently as May and it has been removed from sale at some point http://www.granthamjournal.co.uk/news/local/video-denton-street-market-success-helps-local-causes-1-7369105
  10. So when did anyone here last buy anything from BHS?
  11. They've stopped referring to 'global warming' now and switched to 'climate change'.
  12. A friend if mine is a member of Lostwithiel Rotary and also the ex mayor of the town. Last time I was there he introduced me to a fellow Rotarian who had accidentally shot himself in the head. I'm not sure I'd trust such people to put up bunting either. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  13. The game has moved on physically from when players could have a fag at half time and still play at the top level though.
  14. I think it's Rio Ferdinand who questioned Rooney going. His point (and I agree ) is that England have no chance of winning so it would be better to build for 2018. Unfortunately with Hodgson's contract up for renewal he'll want to get any short term success he can in the Euros. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  15. A lot of players who are good enough for England wouldn't get a regular place in a Man City side to be fair to Sterling, although I agree he's inconsistent. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  16. He's scored 18 goals in a 7 season senior career. Sterling scored that many in 3 seasons with Liverpool, Sturridge scored 43 in 3 seasons with Liverpool and Lallana scored 48 with Southampton and you'd prefer Townsend to any of them? I haven't watched Newcastle much so maybe you could explain what you think he'd bring to the team compared to them. I'm not being argumentative, just curious.
  17. Maybe I've explained what I meant wrong or maybe I don't know how it works. i thought what happened was that all the pigeons were taken to (a pub for example) and loaded onto a lorry. they were all then driven miles away to be released while the clocks were synchronised at the pub. The fanciers then go back home to await their birds. DJ360 saying he'd not seen them released but the market was nearby made me think he meant the birds were released near the pub which I think is wrong. Have I got it right or do I not understand how it worked?
  18. Thinking about it. If your central heating didn't come on and heat the planet up then it would be even colder and your central heating would have to come on. This problem is beyond me.
  19. Scientists have established that the major cause of global warming is people putting their central heating on in June.
  20. Don't the birds get released miles away from where the fanciers are setting their clocks?
  21. So snake meets trouser snake. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  22. The trouble is we don;t want to pay what it would cost to make many products here. We can't have both good wages and cheap manufacturing.
  23. True. I remember Christian Dior shirts coming in from Hong Kong in the 80's. That's why I find it incredible that any textile companies have survived this long. The prices in China, Taiwan etc are so low, how are British companies making money unless they are high margin manufacturers. So many went to the wall in the 80's I assumed they'd all gone now. And chains like BHS were the worst to make money our of.
  24. It's amazing any British textile companies still exist other than at the high end. I didn't think any could still compete with Far Eastern imports on price.
  25. I imagine him sneaking through the pearly gates and attacking Peter Sellers when he least expects it.
